2020.10.25 23:33 Hung-Voyeur Not interested in a relationship but also not interested in short term flings or one night stands. I'm looking for a friend with benefits thats actually a friend. Is it possible?

I'm a 25 year old male and I'm looking for something that I have no idea how to pursue. I swore off marriage, children and cohabitation. I'm happy with my free time, financial independence and stress free single life. The only thing I'm missing is female companionship.
My job field is 99% male dominated. My Muay-Thai club is 99% male dominated. All of my friends are men. I don't have any female friends.
I'm not a person who can go to a club/bar get high/drunk and go home, get naked and fool around with a stranger, no matter how hot she is. That's too trashy for me. I just think it's gross. It makes me uncomfortable.
Ideally there would be a girl in my life that I get along with very well, respect her, be intellectually enticed by her and we'd have great conversations, spend time together and go on dates. Sex isn't necessary or even a priority.
How would I find something like that? Somebody I could go on multiple dates with and enjoy their company with there being 0 pressure of sexual advances on both sides. We'd be there because we enjoy each others time and company. And if sex happens later it happens. But it's not the bedrock of the "relationship".
I know most would say that's called "Friends With Benefits" or "FWB" but let's be honest. Most "fwb" situations are one party using the other for sex. They're not actually friends. I want to opposite. I want a real girl who's my friend and also that I'm attracted to but my attraction towards her takes a back seat to my draw towards her intelligence, wit, charisma, spirit and personality.
I have yet to meet a woman that has offered anything else than her looks so I don't know how to find a female friend based on personality and character when looks is the only thing they offer. I have never met a woman that I'd like to talk more than 5 minutes with about any academic, political, scientific or social subject. I want an intellectual that's feminine and from the opposite sex and is reasonably attractive. I'm tired of women objetifying themselves because they feel like if they're pretty that would be enough for them to be picked or pursued.
I want a real woman as a friend. Is that too much to ask for?

2020.10.25 02:13 Leglocker135 Girl(26F) I'm dating can't get over my(31M) history

When does it become time to call it quits when a girl is being distant and non communicative? This post is going to be very long and descriptive for the purpose of providing as much context and detail possible.
I've been dating this girl for over a month. The first 2 weeks were amazing, we formed a super strong connection from the first date and bonded over somethings that we don't usually find in other people. We share the same values of monogamy, dating only one person at one time but the biggest thing we share-is the fact we both feel like "black sheeps" to our countries of birth. She was born in NZ, and moved to Canada at a young age, whereas I was born in the Philippines, and grew up in Malaysia before moving to Canada.
Later that week(Sept.25), I took her out for date #3 which happened to be her birthday. It was amazing, I bought her flowers which she loved and picked her up for dinner. We ended up having the best date ever, that ended up going for 22hours (slept over, spent half of the next day with her).
Things were progressing well until she found out that her coworkeone of her bestfriends is a girl I had a ONS with, 2 years ago, WAY before I met her. As soon as she found out, she sent me a long text reaming me out, saying how gross, betrayed and cheap she felt. I tried doing as much damage control as I possibly could but her temper was at a fury. From week 1, I had a suspicion that she was coworkers with this friend I had slept with before, I just didn't want to ask for fear of finding out, and risking losing her but I had no intentions of keeping it a secret from her.
The next day(oct 2) she apologized for how reactive she was. She said she doesn't know where she stands yet but was willing to meet up and talk about it. We met up later that night, sat on the beach and just talked for like 3 hours. It was a tense, distant first hour but she wasn't resistant to light contact like me putting my hand on her back and eventually, we got to cuddling on a rock while she would intermittently say "I'm still grumpy". Despite this, I never considered myself completely out of the woods, but more so as a positive sign that there's still hope. I walked her back to her car around 11PM, and gave her some more flowers, which she also loved.
Later that week, we had two good dates....we agreed to meet on a wednesday to catch up. But the tuesday of that week happened to be unexpectedly warm and sunny, so we met on the beach again spur of the moment and spent 3hours together. The next day, I made dinner for her at my house, pad thai and lemongrass salad was on the menu and she loved it and spent the night over, it was like we were on cloud 9 again and everything was trending positively. I never considered myself to be fully out of the woods either despite how well the date was, but I just figured I didn't need to stress about that anymore.
The next 2 days(thurs/fri) were great for texting, she was warm, receptive, wished me a good morning and all that good stuff. The next day after dinner, she even told me that she couldn't stop thinking about me and asked me if I would be free to have dinner at her house on monday night for thanksgiving.
For that following weekend she had plans to go visit her mom (2hr trip) and the physical stress of work from the whole week, along with the drive, wrecked her back so much that come saturday morning, she needed help from her mom getting out of bed and putting on clothes. She didn't respond much on that saturday(oct.10) but I just attributed it to the pain she was in. On sunday, I started to feel something was beginning to shift, she sent a text asking if we could reschedule for tuesday night, which I agreed, but something felt wrong. So the mindfk continued to ensue and swirl inside my head, until on tuesday morning, when she finally sent me a text saying she needed to cancel that night because she was still in a lot of pain, and remembered that she had to go help a friend with something + felt like she needs some solo time to get her life back in order. I took this as a sign that she needed space so I responded by telling her that its fine, to go take care of herself and we can catch up whenever shes ready. So from tuesday(oct13) until friday, we had no contact at all. It was the hardest 3 days I have had to put up with psychologically in a long time, since learning to be happy alone, but with the help of friends and family I didn't crack. She finally texts me on friday(oct16) asking how my week was, I gave her a low key response, and she did the same. I threw out the idea of getting together on the weekend, which she was receptive to.
We ended up seeing each other on saturday and sunday. On saturday, I wow'ed her by taking her to a REAL authentic meat pie shop on saturday for her first time. This is a big deal because on our first date, I asked her if she likes meat pies(being a kiwi) and she burst out in laughter, not because it sounds dirty, but because it was such a leftfield kind of question. The rest of the date went by just fine but she still wasn't her same bubbly self. Her back was still in alot of pain so we basically went for a walk, sat down and enjoyed our meat pies.
The next day, we met up again. We went to the beach for a lowkey date and this is finally where the real reason of her needing distance came up. She told me that last weekend when she visited her mom and was in alot of pain, she had to spend alot of time laying down still which gave her way too much time to think about stuff, like the fact I had slept with her friend once months ago and still isn't over it. She said she was in need of time and distance to see if what she feels for me is truly a connection or just lust. In our discussion, she also mentioned that she feels we have a connection, share the same values, and can see a future together but the fact she see's and works with this girl (who I slept with) everyday makes it difficult for her to accept. I was gutted on the way home to drop her off and didnt say much in the car...although I still had my hand on her leg and her finger twirled around mine. On the way back she said, she doesn't feel like shes being fair to me and feels like she has to make an ultimatum with herself-to which I didn't respond to.
Later that evening, I sent her a text at 1120pm saying "I just want to make sure you know, it doesn't matter what you said in the car about it not being fair, I don't want you to rush to a deicion. Thats all." At midnight, she responded by saying "I care about you. That is the only reason im being cautiouis about moving forward. I value you enough to be certain Im ready to be present. I dont feel pressured by you at all to make a decision or anything. I am very grateful for your patience<3." I didn't respond, and in the morning she actually wished me a good day, which was surprising to me and I wished her the same aswell. She also followed me on instagram the night before, which was a nice hit off dopamine I suppose.
Later that day, she invited me to go to the hot tub the next day with her friends. This was my first time meeting 2 of her friends and it was a chill date, nothing to complain about. We still held hands and sat together. But I still wasn't getting the same open vibe and energy from her when she came over for dinner.
On thursday, I had a half day at work and I couldn't stop thinking about her. I made a small hand bouqet of flowers for her-wild ferns I picked from the rainforest at work, and one single sunflower I bought. I left them for her at her lawn with a short note, and when she found them she sent me a text saying "Oh _____. You are such a sweet and thoughtful creature. Even when I'm distant and not being a great communicator..you are so kind. Thank you, I feel very special after finding this surprise." I responded by letting her know there is no deviating when I've made up my mind and I'm very happy she likes it. Didn't receive a response.
Its saturday afternoon now and she isn't one bit more receptive and open to communicating. Against the advice of those around me, I asked her if she was interested in meeting today and all she said was "its a packed weekend, next time!". I asked her if she was going out of town, to which I got no reply from. I haven't sent her anything since and now I feel my only course of action is to pull back hard again and wait until she contacts me.
I have essentially been walking around egg shells for the past 2 weeks, getting hot and cold behaviour from her. I feel very strongly about this girl and have the best intentions and I'm not even worried that there is another guy in the mix, I am confident that I've set myself apart from other guys in the short time that I've known her, but she really is putting my patience to a test, not that I am starting to get mad, but it is beginning to wear on me and I'm having to remind myself to uphold my self esteem and remember my own self worth.
Is she being petty for holding this past incident against me, despite how well I have treated her? Should I hold out and keep being patient?

2020.10.13 14:33 mysticmusician [30M4F]Dating App

I had no idea how the app appeared on my phone, but it had. I had been having a lot of bad luck with relationships, and despite thinking things were working out great they would go an break my heart. The last woman said she was not looking for something long term to only get married less than a year later and have their first kid a little over a year after that. One before that was the ‘it’s not you it’s me’ line and left the state to not be heard from again. Then the one before that ended up her crying in my arms saying that she was not interested in guys: she’s now hooked up with some Neko and seems to be doing well.
These non-humans, or monster-folk as some people call them in a derogatory way, have been appearing more and more recently and after all these years appear to be a part of the community. When I got this dating app and had my info uploaded into it, I was surprised to see that the profiles were all non-humans. I had never dated a non-human before. Have talked and chatted with a few before, but maybe it was a sign that being with a human was not for me.
I had swiped right on a few profiles, but I was not sure if any of them would swipe right too and match with me. With my luck so far, maybe I was not meant to find love with a non-human too. Only time would tell.
My profile; 30 y.o. Male. Single. Australian. 6’ tall, short brown hair, haze eyes, moderate build. Likes: sci-fi / fantasy / adventure movies and novels. Jazz music. Thai food.
Wanting to meet someone face-to-face: maybe grab a hot chocolate somewhere and talk about a trashy movie that will be played on T.V. tonight.
. . .
. . .
Hello MonsterGirlRP prompt reader.
This RP would involve you matching on my profile and is chatting and eventually meeting up. How will I react when I see what type of non-human you are, and how will our relationship develop?
Let us see what happens. We can discuss here via DM and can move across to discord if things seem to work out.

2020.10.12 19:46 partypastor Unreached People Group of the Week - Turkish Cypriots of Cyprus

Sorry for the late post today guys, I had a busy morning. Meet the Turkish Cypriots of Cyprus!
How Unreached Are They?
Turkish Cypriots of Cyprus are 0.5% Christian. That means out of their 217,000 population, only maybe 1,000 of them are believers. To make that even more relatable, there is only 1 believer for every 200 unbelievers.
An extremely small number of the Turkish Cypriots are Christians. The Bible, Christian radio broadcasts, and the Jesus film are all available in the Turkish language. Strongly devoted to Islam, the Turkish Cypriots need much prayer and dedicated workers living among them so they will know that when they die, it is not how they live, but Who lives inside of them, that will bring them to heaven. Joshua Project
What are they like?
Typical qualification that all people groups can't be summed up in small paragraphs and this is an over generalization.
Most of the Turkish Cypriots live in rural villages and rely on agriculture and trade for their livelihood. The land primarily consists of fertile plains, the inhabitants of which are blessed with a favorable climate that nourishes lush vegetation. Crops include fruits, wheat, barley, carrots and other vegetables, tobacco, and green fodder. Men handle most of the agricultural chores, but during harvest time the whole family helps with the farming duties. Those who prefer an urban lifestyle can find homes and plentiful jobs in the towns.
The homes in Cyprus are typically made of wood or stone. They usually have two stories and flat roofs. Animals share the lower floor along with storage facilities. In single story houses, the women use the living room to work in during the day; at night it becomes the family's bedroom.
Cyprus's excellent educational system provides free elementary education, for at least three of the five-year secondary education program, and technical training. As a result, there is very little illiteracy on the island. There are actually six universities in North Cyprus where Turkish Cypriots reside. These universities bring in people from all over the Muslim world. As a result of these universities and other factors younger generations are speaking English more and more. English is spoken widely as a second language, and many older Cypriot Turks know Greek.
Thanks to the healthy climate and well-organized health services, the people are generally healthy and the island, as a whole, is free of major diseases such as malaria and tapeworm cysts.
Craftsmen skilled in calligraphy, ceramics, and metalwork help keep the Turkish culture alive in Cyprus. Rug weaving is also an important skill because rugs are part of the Islam prayer ritual. Girls and young women are responsible for weaving the beautiful rugs.
Marriage is important in a Muslim culture and Turkish Cypriot girls usually marry at a young age. Marriages are usually between close kin, even between first cousins. Such intermarriage is common in a Muslim culture because it helps keep wealth within the extended family.
The Turkish Cypriots are Caucasians; most have dark hair and brown eyes. They are known to be gentle, courteous, and hospitable to strangers. They are proud of their ethnic heritage and remain very loyal to Turkey. Joshua Project
History Lesson
The Turkish Cypriots live on the northern section of the island of Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean Sea, just south of Turkey. As the descendants of Turkish Ottoman invaders who conquered Cyprus in the 16th century, the Turkish Cypriot proudly maintain Turkish customs, traditions, and language (Turkish). Today, the Turkish Cypriots make up about one-fifth of the island's total population. Various estimates point out that at least half of the Turks in Northern Cyprus are settlers from Turkey who emigrated in the last 30 or 40 years.
The Greeks, who inhabit the remainder of the island, have been enemies of the Turks since the Ottoman invasion. Cyprus became an independent republic in 1960, a move that was supposed to end warfare between the Greeks and the Turks. However, the bitterness continued, and when war erupted again in 1963, the Greeks won economic control of the island.
Turkey invaded in 1974 and took control of the northern third of the island. Today, a border separates the two peoples, whose animosity has never allowed them to come to terms with one another. Joshua Project
What do they believe?
Almost all of the Turkish Cypriots are Muslims who practice Muslim ceremonies and follow Islamic beliefs. For example, they believe that death is the beginning of a new life; the dead person waits for resurrection to either heaven or hell, depending on the way he/she lived life on earth. They believe in the "evil eye," which is the power to harm someone just by looking at him. Joshua Project
How Can We Pray For Them?
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. (Romans 10:1)

2020.10.12 12:47 Lashay_Sombra Not a single Chinese actually turned up to apply for the STV!

Chinese tourists on the way but..
The Tourism Authority of Thailand sent a list of the first group of STV (special tourist visa) Chinese tourists to the Thai consulate in Guangzhou on Oct 5. Foreign Affairs Ministry deputy spokesman Natapanu Nopakun, however, said no Chinese tourists had been to the consulate to apply for an STV
So the first group were meant to arrive on the 8th, but TAT did not send a single name until the 6th and to date not a single one has actuelly been to consulate to put in a visa application. Begs the question, where are TAT generating these lists from?
Can we get TAT (and health and CAAT) out of the border reopening buisness and back to their usual lying about how much tourists that no one wants/like are such big spenders? 6 months, countless plans, and not a single official tourist has made it.
In other news, certain embassies have quietly started issuing normal tourist visas again, though note some of new requirements, especially bank statements.
Most people missed that with the STV visa announcement was a (intentionally?) badly worded change attached that basiclly opened country to all visas 60 days and over, so dependant on local embassy (for COE) basically all entry types are now valid for entry except, exemption, VOA and transit.

2020.10.11 21:34 tutetibiimperes Nugu Roundup #60 - When Proud Pied April, Dress'd in all his trim, Hath put a Spirit of Youth in Every Thing- 201011 + Album Giveaway

Hello and welcome to the latest Nugu Roundup!
What is this?: This is a weekly feature designed to highlight the unknown/underappreciated groups and soloists working hard in the Kpop world that often fall under the radar. Please share your own information, favorite performance videos, fanmeet stories, or anything else relevant below!
Last week we spent time with Dreamcatcher's little brothers, D1CE! This week let's check out a group that's more on the 'underrated' side than the 'nugu' side, let's get to know April!
Look at the first comment below for the winner of the fourteenth Nugu Roundup Album Giveaway, plus details on this week's album up for grabs!
What is Nugu?: While in Korean it literally means 'Who' in the broader Kpop context it refers to groups that are generally unknown amongst the greater public. It doesn't have to mean they're extremely new, though it can, and there are of course varying degrees of 'unknown' which some groups having very strong niche fandoms and others being almost invisible. I take a fairly broad view and will include groups that may be known to some, but who don't have widespread name recognition.
Let's get on with the show...
________________________________________________________
APRIL
Who are they?: April is a six member girl group under DSP Media. While their name in Hangul 에이프릴 phonetically sounds much like 'April' it's also a compound word of 'A Frill' indicating they are pretty women, and with the April name means they want to present a warm and relaxing atmosphere like the month of April. Their fandom name is Fineapple, which is a combination of "Fine" meaning good, and "Apple" representing April.
Company: DSP Media was originally one of the largest Kpop companies in the game, representing mega-hit artists such as Fin.K.L, SECHSKIES, and KARA. They lost ground in the transition from 2nd to 3rd generation groups and now represent April and co-ed group KARD. They also have a pre-debut 9 member boy group in development including two Produce X101 contestants. Other notable former artists include the girl group Rainbow and boy groups SS501 and A-JAX.

YouTube Channel: April
Random Stuff
Trivia: On debut April was one of the youngest active Kpop groups, with an average age of 17.5. The group has a mascot, known as Sawori, which is a giant seed representing sprouting love and energy for the group. The group has amassed a number of CF deals including Mexican Chicken (a Korean chicken chain), FIFA Online, and a goat-milk face mask product. Their fandom name was the result of a fan vote and Fineapple narrowly beat out Aries as the top choice. Despite a long hiatus between The Ruby and De Capo the group seems to be gaining momentum, with their special summer album Hello Summer reaching 14,000 physical copies sold, the group's best thus far, while the group had never broken 10K before De Capo. Lalalilala also marked the group's highest single charting at 40 on the Gaon digital chart and 37 on Melon. As a fun little Easter-Egg the first letter of April's first three EPs (Dreaming, Spring, Prelude) spells out "DSP". The group has won three medals at ISAC competitions, all of them for Rhythm Gymnastics. The group is currently one of the longest-running active idol groups that has never won 1st place on a music show.

SOLOIST OF THE WEEK
Woosung/Sammy
Who is he?: Woosung is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and leader of the band The Rose. He has released several solo songs and a solo EP but is also still active with his band.
Company: J&Star Entertainment appears to be a new and small company with The Rose being their only musical act, though they also represent a male model and actor by the name of Bonyoung.
Real Name: Kim Woo Sung (Korean) Sammy Kim (English)
Age: 27 (IA)
Pre-Release Debut: July 19th, 2019 with Lonely (audio) Live Performance (Link)
Official Solo Debut: July 25th, 2019 with Face (MV) Live Performance (Link)
First Comeback: November 15th, 2019 with Beautiful Girl feat. Penile (MV) Live Performance (Link)
YouTube Channel: via The Rose
Trivia: He is from Los Angeles, CA. He competed on the first season of Kpop Star. He participated in the writing and production of the song Yolo from Boys24 (link). His role model for The Rose is The Beatles, a band that showed both vocal talent as well as creativity. During the album cover shooting for his Wolf EP they used a real wolf-dog for the photos, and he says it was difficult because the wolf-dog did not listen to commands and kept wanting to wander away. He is close to BM of KARD and Ashley of Ladies Code due to their US upbringing. When he was young he watched a video of Angus Young of AC/DC and loved the look of the guitar so made one himself out of shoelaces and a toy sword he had. His mother ended up buying him a guitar after that, though it wasn't until he was injured while playing football in high school that he decided to devote his energies fully into music. ________________________________________________________
IN MEMORIAM
VERMUDA
Who were they?: A five member boy group under Pacemaker Entertainment. Their name in Hangul is spelled the same way as the island of Bermuda. Their fandom name was Triangle, the same as the title of their debut EP.
Debut: June 12th, 2017 with Dream Girl (MV) Live Stage (Link) Dance Practice (Link)
Final Release: February 13th, 2018 with Farewell (audio)
Active Between: June 2017 - Sometime in 2019
Reasons for Disbanding: All of the groups social media accounts were deleted or went silent, which combined with no output since 2018 leads to the likelihood that the group has quietly disbanded. No other groups or information can be found for the group's company Pacemaker Entertainment, so it's possible the company folded as well.
Trivia: The group featured former members of 100%, ZPZG (which is rumored to be reforming), and Mr. Slam. Member NaKang who contributed to the writing of their final track is a cousin of KiKwang from Highlight. The group had previously been known as BEAM. It appears that they attempted to do live touring internationally including in China and Japan during 2018.

That's it for today, let's get the discussion on!

2020.10.11 05:24 Vegan-Daddio What's the best recipe to make to impress a date?

I've been vegan for 2 years but I've only made a few meals for different women ive gone on dates with. My go-to is a mean Thai Green curry that I make and its worked out well, but I need other dishes since I can't make it everytime I have someone over for dinner. As a single guy my personal meals are just fine and I like them, but Idk if they'd translate as "impressive" or good to other people. They're very simple and quick to make.
So I'd like to hear yall's best recipes to impress someone 😁

2020.10.10 12:39 Meloxian BJJ got me sent to prison...

I’m in a dream
I was a kid again back in the house I grew up in when I was younger (I aged throughout the dream from like 10 to looking like I do now) and my childhood stepdad invited a girl I had a crush on a few years back (around 18 or 19 ish) over for some kind of date thing which I didn’t like.
My mom spent the whole time cleaning and I was on my phone, and the two of them walked around and talked. I tried to mind my buisness, but after she left I went to the bathroom and he followed me in and said I had a bad attitude for not supporting him which pissed me off even more.
The straw that broke the camels back was when he said If I thought I was big enough to fight him he’d beat the fuck out of me and kick me out. He was like a foot or two bigger than me (the same difference he was when I was a child) I got into a staring match with him and when he put a hand on my right shoulder I broke the grip and got low for a single leg takedown but changed my mind due to the height and decided to strike.
I hit him with a few Thai kicks which were fast and accurate with good turning in the dream that should’ve knocked him to his knees due to the turn I had but weren’t effective because of Dream magic. Now at this point he’s punching me and I’m defending his wild punches with a high boxing guard but I’m not liking the situation - he’s towering over me throwing wild haymakers so I say fuck it let’s go to the ground.
I duck and weave my way into position and hit a fast/hard as fuck ippon seio nage (single shoulder throw) which put him on the ground (there was magically enough space because of dream logic). He wasn’t doing a lot of defending from side control so I passed to mount and punched the fuck out of him until his face resembled a tomato.
I remembered I’d practiced guillotines in class and he wasn’t defending so I got both hooks in and took his back very slopily but it worked. I hit him with a rear naked choke until he passed out and I held on for a little longer then let go. He was still alive but when I got up I kicked him in the head and spit on him.
The cops were called and they came in and arrested me and I woke up just as I got to prison.

2020.10.05 15:09 origamidreaming I am 33 years old making $335,000, live in London, and work as a lawyer

This is my first MD, a little scary! I've been reading Refinery29 for ages and found this group after the disappointing, fake lawyer MD from "Salt Lake City".
Section One: Assets and Debt
I'm single so all amounts are my own, although I've had help from my parents at various points in my life (which I'll note) and I'm very lucky to also have them to support me if life goes completely to the gutter. Everything in this diary is converted into USD and rounded (to the nearest cent for the diary, but nearest $1k more generally) for simplicity using google's exchange rates when I was writing this over the last week.
Section Two: Income
On income progression, I've been working as a lawyer for 10 years:
Section Three: Expenses
Section 4: Diary
DAY 1 SUNDAY - $33.50
I wake up at 7 am . . . My biological clock in COVID times is all sorts of messed up, and I feel like I've been sleep deprived for months. Doggo hears me moving in bed and jumps up for a 15 minute cuddle. I then put on a coat and take her outside for a bathroom break. I feed Doggo and make a cup of tea for myself and then go back to bed.
By bed, I mean I scroll through IG and the news for an hour. I doze off eventually and then wake up at 10:30 for a second cuddle session. I finally get dressed while listening to NPR's Consider This. I'm 4 episodes behind, it's the perfect start to the morning. I make avocado toast with a fried egg at 11:15.
I head out to walk Doggo for an hour at noon and regret it 15 minutes in. London has skipped Fall, it feels very much like Winter and I'm not prepared. By the end of the walk, I'm sniffling behind my mask. I treat myself to a blueberry financier from my local cafe ($4.72). I eat half of the cake at home with a second cup of tea, decaffeinated this time, and also eat a box of cherries. Doggo eats her lunch and then passes out.
I spend most of the afternoon decluttering, I go through and organise, swapping out seasonal clothes. I have been watching the Home Edit on Netflix and am obsessed!!! I'm thinking of placing an IKEA/Amazon order for "Product" but hold off. Amazon delivery guy drops off a parcel at 3 pm -- I bought a plant saucer and a trio of pots last week. I've been growing some plants on my patio but now that it's getting cold, need to bring them all in. I spend an hour repotting some herbs. I place a second order for the pots and saucer as they're perfect for the remaining herbs ($28.78).
At 6:30, I make myself some skillet pizza with a side salad for dinner, and eat while addressing some weekend work emails for about 30 minutes. I hop into the shower at 7:30 and spend my evening with a face mask and the Home Edit. Doggo gets her last walk at 9 pm, and then we head to bed. I have a hard time falling asleep so I light a candle, move the phone to another room, and lie in bed for hours.
DAY 2 MONDAY - $0
I wake up at 7:30 am and take Doggo out, make myself a cup of tea, and eat the leftover cake along with strawberries for breakfast. I start work at 8 am, replying to emails and reviewing memos until 10, when I have an hour call with one of my direct reports.
After the call, I take Doggo out to the park for an hour. I keep an eye on emails, but nothing too exciting comes up as I work for an American company and it's still early there. When we get back, I heat up leftover pizza for lunch at noon and dive back into work. I start a marathon of calls from 1:30 pm to 4 pm, and then finally turn to other work.
The Amazon delivery guy arrives at 5pm, I take a 30 minute break to repot the remaining herbs before the sun sets, and then head back to work until 7 pm. I feel lazy so make myself avocado toast, peel an orange and eat a spoon of nutella for dinner. I spend the evening listening to the How I Built This podcast and watching the last episode of The House Edit. I'm in bed by 10.
DAY 3 TUESDAY - $46.27
I wake up at 7 am and take Doggo out -- big mistake not wearing a raincoat, so we make it as quick as possible. Doggo gets her breakfast while I make a cup of tea and eat two portions of strawberry yogurt. I work from 7:30-8:15, and then head out to take Doggo to the vet. I'm back home at 9:30, but sadly without Doggo who has been having leg issues this year. The vet recommended that she stay with them until the afternoon for x-rays. Thank goodness for pet insurance, the x-rays cost $940 but it is all covered by the insurer as I've already met my deductible.
I work from 10 to 12 before taking a quick 15 minute break to make some noodles (Thai inspired peanut noodles -- I made the sauce last week and defrosted overnight). I eat my meal while browsing Reddit and various blogs, and then spend another 15 minutes vacuuming the flat (Doggo sheds!).
I restart work at 1 pm until I pick Doggo up at 5 pm, she's lethargic from being sedated and the vet recommends booking her in for surgery (another £2,600 covered by the insurer). I join a call from 6-7 and then finish addressing other work emails that are time sensitive.
I stop work at 8 pm and let my friends, family and the dog walker know about Doggo's upcoming surgery next week. I'm stressed and decide to place an order on Glossier for cloud paint, balm dotcom and stretch concealer. I use a 10% coupon and it comes out to $46.27. I wash up, browse through the news, and go to bed at 10:30 pm.
DAY 4 WEDNESDAY - $59.02
I wake up at 7:30 am and take Doggo out, the morning is lovely today (bright blue skies, air nice and crisp!). I work for 45 minutes from 8 while eating granola with milk, and then head to the farmers’ market for some groceries. Meanwhile, the dog walker comes by at 9 to take Doggo to the park (cost is included in my monthly expenses). I ended up buying daikon, coleslaw, brioche rolls, pork ribs, roast turkey, gouda, and salmon ($26.97).
I come back from grocery shopping to see a delivery of flowers ($32.05). This is a subscription service where I get a delivery about once every three weeks (approximately how long they. last), but I’ll skip if I don’t like the arrangement. I used to not buy flowers, but it's given me such joy this year. This weeks’ arrangement includes pale pink roses, snowberries, bright pink alstroemeria, purple irises, white lisianthus and eucalyptus.
Doggo comes back from her walk, and she goes to sleep while I restart work. I do a load of laundry at noon, take a 30 minute yoga break, and then make myself a sandwich with coleslaw, turkey, sliced cheese (thank you to the CupofJo blog for the idea, delicious). I finish off the rest of the nutella. Doggo also gets her lunch and a bit of playtime. I dive back into work at 1 pm after putting my clothes in the dryer. I'm on back to back calls from 4 to 6, and then end my workday at 6:30. I make myself some ramen spruced up with bok choi and salad onions from my indoor herb garden.
I decide to shower early at 8 and then watch Schitt's Creek while reading up on the news (last night's debate, omg). I decide to go to bed at 10:30 and pop Doggo into her crate and try locking the door. It's a disaster, she cries and whimpers until 2 am. I wasn't expecting it to be this bad: she used to sleep in a locked crate as a baby and, even as an adult, alternates between sleeping in the crate (unlocked) and on my bed. Once she has her surgery, she'll need to sleep in a locked crate for two months while her legs heal as jumping will undo all the good work. It's devastating and I can't sleep either, I think I fall asleep at 3 am but who knows when.
DAY 5 THURSDAY - $123.76
I'm exhausted but my body wakes up at 7 am anyways. Doggo is quite happy and seems not exhausted at all. I take her for a short walk, give her breakfast, make myself some tea and get to work at 7:30 -- I'll nap later if I can. I catch up on emails, review some documents, and look at candidate resumes for a role that's open on my team. I break at 9:30 to fry an egg to eat with toast and a second cup of tea. I take a 45 minute call at 10, which results in a massive headache (mostly because of the 4 or so hours of sleep, but the call was a mess too). I decide to take Doggo out so we can both get some fresh air.
At noon, I get a delivery of plants that I purchased last week! This makes me so happy and motivated to work again. If anyone else is as plant obsessed, I bought Zamioculcas zamiifolia, polyscias fabian, sansevieria moonshine, clusia princess and a new pot. I take a break at 1 pm to eat a lunch of daikon soup and ribs (leftover, defrosted from last week), which watching Criminal on Netflix. It's the French series, I've already finished the UK set. I also feed Doggo her lunch inside her crate with the door locked, a little bit of whimpering but so much better.
Back to work at 2 pm with back to back calls from 2:30-4:30 (way too many calls in COVID times). I finish work at 6:30 after my last call is cancelled. At 7 pm, the doorbell rings again -- my groceries are here! I order online once every two weeks and supplement with weekly trips to the farmers market. Today's grocery bill is $82.27 for baby wipes (for Doggo), toilet paper, hand gel x2, shampoo x2, kleenex x2, toothbrush heads, decaf tea bags, soy sauce, chilli oil, sugar, peanut butter, rice noodles, tomatoes, onions, chicken thigh, melon, salad onions, pizza, mandarins, green beans, bananas, grapes, broccoli.
After unpacking my groceries, I buy a box of roasted cauliflower and greek salad from the cafe downstairs for dinner ($9.67). I place an order for Doggo from Amazon: some powder for small cuts to add to our first-aid kit and a raised dog bowl (supposedly better for her spine) totalling $31.82. We do some training in the evening (tricks for treats!) so she's nice and tired, cuddle in the bed while watching Schitt's Creek, and then I place her into the crate (minimal crying for about 10 minutes tonight, thank you Doggo).
DAY 6 FRIDAY - $45.61
I wake up at 7:30 am, take Doggo out quickly and start a laundry cycle for my sheets, duvet cover and pillow covers. At 8 am, the cleaner comes to do a much better job than I can (included in monthly expenses) and also makes my bed (is anyone else useless at putting duvets in duvet covers?). I give Doggo her breakfast, make myself a cup of tea and I eat some leftover carrot cake. I work from 8:30 to 11, when the cleaner leaves, with a break in between to put the laundry into the dryer.
Doggo gets a 15 minute walk (it's pouring!) and then we both eat lunch. I make an arugula salad, with tomatoes, mozzarella and mint & balsamic dressing. I read Lean In for an hour while eating. Yes, I know I'm late to the book club but was curious after seeing all of the comments!
I restart work at 12:30 and end at 5:30 to quickly walk Doggo in the rain and then play with her. I leave her with dinner at 6 and then take an Uber to Boy's place (it's our 4th date). I've been disappointed with Londoners on the tube as many people don't wear masks or don't do it properly so prefer to walk or take Ubers even though it's obviously more expensive.
Boy has been cooking up a storm, we polish off a bottle of wine and then some more, a tomato salad and pasta with lots of cheese. I Uber back right before midnight ($45.61 for two Ubers), I'm not concerned about the Uber turning into a pumpkin but I would never leave Doggo by herself. Sorry Boy (and boys generally), I don't do sleepovers without Doggo. Doggo is the happiest girl and I'm feeling pretty good myself, so we go on a long midnight walk and then some playtime at home. I'm not in bed until 2 am.
DAY 7 SATURDAY - $17.96
I wake up at 10 am and Doggo and I head to the park. The skies don't look great, so we keep the walk relatively short and choose not to take a detour into the farmers market. It's the right decision as it starts pouring at around 11 once we're home. Doggo gets her lunch, while I make myself a BLT with some grapes. I then spend an hour catching up on work emails that came in Friday (evening London time, but business hours America time). I draft a couple of responses so they're ready to go, but wait to send them until Monday. Weekend emails are the worst.
I text Boy to say thank you again for the dinner, we flirt a bit and then I get on a call with a group of my best friends at 2 pm to catch up. We all turn the video off because of Zoom fatigue but just hearing their voices is perfect. I spend the afternoon reading up on surgery aftercare for Doggo and place an order for a cold press and an inflatable pet collar that looks soft so that Doggo won't need to wear the cone of shame ($17.96). I then finish Lean In and also go through Criminal (France) on Netflix.
At 7 pm, I start making dinner (salmon with honey and sriracha plus a side salad) and call my brother in Vancouver in the evening to catch up over my dinner and his breakfast. I shower early, put on a face mask, and watch When Harry Met Sally. Doggo joins me during the movie to enjoy some belly rubs, takes her last walk and then we're both in bed by 10:30.
TOTAL SPEND: $326.12
This week wasn't too unusual apart from Doggo's costs. Apart from food and treats when we're running low I rarely buy anything for her anymore as we've accumulated a ton of toys, leads, etc. Pre-COVID times I spent more money on transport and food (as I used to eat out for my lunch almost every day in the office), but less money on home and health (I have bought so many plants and spruced up some of my decorations). The beauty purchase is a once a month cost, but I would spend that money in other categories other weeks.

2020.09.28 12:26 BlockDotCo Blockchain Use in Intellectual Property

Blockchain Use in Intellectual Property
Link to original article: https://block.co/blockchain-use-in-intellectual-property/
Patents, trademarks, and industrial designs, along with copyrights, are all types of intellectual property protections that help creators of written stories, inventions, artistic works, or symbols to stop people from stealing or copying their pieces of work. In this article, we will examine how blockchain is used in Intellectual Property rights.
Broadly speaking, Intellectual Properties (IP) are “unique, value-adding creations of the human intellect that result from human ingenuity, creativity, and inventiveness.” (Kalanje, 2006).
By observing trends, we can identify a steady increase in the number of Intellectual Property applications worldwide. According to official statistics by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), applications worldwide of patents grew 72.3% over ten years, increasing to 3,326,300 from 2008 to 2018. Trademarks grew an astonishing 160% over the same period, to a record 14,321,800 number of applications, while industrial design applications were 1,312,600, growing by 61%. Every country has a specific authority where to apply for proper protection. However, it is becoming increasingly common that these jurisdictions will utilize blockchain technology to provide a smoother, faster, and cheaper application process and a system that ensures an incorruptible and secure timestamping through the hashing function.
How does it work?
Blockchain ‘trust’ is guaranteed by hashing algorithms, instead of third parties. Since, by default, hashes are unique and cannot be misinterpreted, nor two same hashes can be produced, it’s just easy to identify and match that hash with a unique document creating an unambiguous proof of existence. This way, a permanent ledger of data is created to prove the existence and the lifecycle of a specific IP right, enhancing its protection at a registry or in court.
Blockchain use in Intellectual Property potential is enormous, aiding in the evidence of creatorship and provenance authentication to registering and clearing IP rights; digital rights management; establishing and enforcing IP agreements, licenses, or exclusive distribution networks through smart contracts; and transmitting payments in real-time to IP owners.
In the case of patents, the real benefit of using blockchain lies in the immutable ledger of records with a tamper-proof code providing strong evidence of facts about an invention life-cycle. However, unlike copyrights, any new creation will still have to be patented with the proper authority or anyone else will be free to copy it or claim it without incurring any legal trouble.

“Deploying blockchain technology within the patent system could reduce inefficiencies in recording and efficiently agreeing the time of registrations, perhaps across several national patent systems” (Boucher et al., 2017).
In the case of Copyrights, these do not need to be registered with a government authority, therefore blockchain can have a major role in ensuring that evidence can be provided of authorship, use, and status of a specific production. Particularly, in case of disputes in court, blockchain provides strong evidence to prove an inventor’s right on intellectual property, and protect legal rights on authorship. So, when including writing and literary or artistic works, creators get some type of protection automatically via blockchain, whereas with others, they have to apply for it.
Trademarks, on the other hand, are the IP protection type that can most benefit from blockchain because it can easily, quickly, and very cheaply prove how similar are two marks to each other and who can claim to have used it first, providing immutable and timestamped proof of dates and usage. By using blockchain, many of the questions which can arise about exactly when, where, and how the trademark was used, can be instantly answered.
Cyprus-based company Block.co provides services in a range of different industries, and timestamping trademarks on the blockchain is one of them. The company is a spin-off of the University of Nicosia, one of the biggest blockchain contributors globally, and its mission is to eliminate document fraud in all sectors, by transforming the way institutions manage digital records.
International business and technology lawyer Christiana Aristidou makes large use of Block.co’s services and especially in copyrights and trademarks for several of her clients.
“We consider the Block.co solution indispensable towards our objective of constantly enhancing the provision of our legal services through innovative technological solutions. The protection of copyright and other relevant intellectual property rights now involves a simple, fast, automated, and cost-efficient, blockchain-backed certificate issuance. Using blockchain, thereby ensuring a transparent, immutable, secure, time-stamped, and tamper-proof recording of data, the Block.co solution offers a revolutionary and innovative means to protect our clients’ intellectual property, instead of other time-consuming and costly traditional processes.” she recently stated.
“Specifically, our clients’ data and evidence supporting their authorship, invention, or creation of any property that warrants copyright protection, may now be recorded in a digital document, which is then verified in a trusted and time-stamped manner on a blockchain. Our clients retain ownership and control of their data, having been granted easy access to a self-verifiable blockchain-secured certificate of such data.”
Smart Contracts
Smart contracts could also represent an important asset of blockchain technology because they can be used in intellectual property to establish and enforce agreements such as licenses and allow the transmission of payments in real-time to IP owners. Indeed, they allow automatic payments for transactions between users and rights holders with no middle man, thereby cutting out intermediate fees, longer procedures, and bureaucratic hurdles.

Blockchain in IP around the world
In Europe, various governmental agencies and IP registries such as the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) are actively involved in researching and promoting blockchain capabilities within the industry.
In particular, they believe blockchain can transform IP rights by highlighting, in one of their advanced research forums, that:
  • IP and blockchain are interrelated
  • Blockchain is transformative
  • IP protection will drive innovation in the ecosystem
  • Blockchain technology will transform IP protection and enforcement
  • Blockchain technology provides opportunities for both pirates and law enforcement
In India, the IPO (Indian Patent Office) is working on using blockchain and other innovative technologies like AI and IOT to enable smoother patent processes. A Blockchain-AI-based ecosystem is on the table to manage IP protection in India, intending to produce a much more efficient, straightforward, and faster procedure. IPO recently announced a tender called, “Expression of Interest for Making use of Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, IoT and other latest technologies in the Patent Processing system of IPO”, reinforcing their will to proceed along this line of work and stay up to date with the technological innovation that blockchain, AI and IoT can bring to the benefit of IP rights. A legal framework for a Blockchain-based IP registry to protect and commercialize smart ideas is one of the main and earliest initiatives the IPO is taking for the Indian IP industry.
In the United States, we find a clear example of how blockchain is used to protect American businesses from IPR theft by testing imports. Since blockchain has proven to be beneficial to streamline communication between multiple parties securely, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), with the funding of the Department of Homeland Security’s Science & Technology Directorate, recently completed a proof-of-concept (PoC) of a blockchain platform with that specific aim. Personal data and trade secrets would be kept safe at all times using encrypted keys, with the blockchain acting as an immutable ledger to record trade transactions.
In Southeast Asia, Thailand is leading the way in developing blockchain technology for IP protection. Various organizations and government offices have invested in projects aimed at implementing the tech to make IPR processes more efficient and faster. The Ministry of Commerce has recently launched a feasibility study to explore the use of blockchain for IP registration in the country, while the Thai Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), in collaboration with the British Embassy, were designated to analyze the study and translate it into action plans for future developments.
Conclusion — Blockchain limits and benefits in IP
As with every new technology, especially the most disruptive ones, setbacks can be both from a technical and a systemic perspective. Enormous processing power and scalability are still the main issues from a technical point, whereas a system that could connect registries across the world through a single distributed ledger represents the main challenge, not only for IP-related industries. Thankfully, Block.co’s solution already uses the Bitcoin blockchain and its network effect for this purpose, envisioning truly decentralized and secure storage for IP rights, that will outlive any issuing institution itself.
An international standardized system and platform that could facilitate global communication and successful management of IP rights via blockchain is an ambition that is reflected in healthcare, law, and many other industries. On the other hand, blockchain based IP rights enforcement is already a huge achievement, especially for those small artists who could not afford teams of lawyers to defend them in disputes to prove records of their authorship.

2020.09.18 22:18 nishant_lannister She comes from a very affluent family. I am nervous...

I just had a 55 minute conversation with her. She and I have decided to go to Bercos (a Thai-Chinese) restaurant on our next date. Every single day we talk we fall a few more feet in love man... She is not a big text person so she just calls me thrice a day. She tells me to wait for her call coz guests are at her home.
The only issue is that she is very rich. Her father drives a 3Million Rupees car. A toyota fortuner. I sometimes feel nervous... She has a Macbook Pro, Iphone XR, Apple Watch and Hyundai Venue car of her own... But I also know that she deeply loves me. I have tried to convey to her that I cannot afford fine dining and taking her to PVR goldclass... She says "you are also rich, dont worry" but deep inside, I am scared.

2020.09.18 13:09 PiggySVW 14 currently active Munich-born footballers have received a call up to a national team. None of those was from Germany. Here are their stories.

While searching some stuff on Transfermarkt, I discovered that there are 14 currently active football players who were born in Munich and have been called up for at least one senior national team fixture. Funnily, not a single one of those 14 players was called up to the German Nationalmannschaft. I decided to take a closer look at their respective careers. There are some more obvious paths like Germans of Turkish descent who went on to play in and for Turkey but also some pretty obscure careers. I begin with the most capped player and work my way down the list to the players who only got a call up without getting any game time. I sincerely hope you enjoy this read, it was pretty fun to write down!

Fabian Johnson

Age: 32
Position: Left Winger
Current team: -
National team: USA (57 matches, 2 goals)
The most-capped player in this list is American international Fabian Johnson. He was born in 1987 in München-Giesing and started his footballing career playing for Sportfreunde München before making the switch to 1860 where he spent 13 years. In 2009, he began his career in the 1. Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. Until today he made over 200 appearances in Germany's top flight for the Wolves, Hoffenheim and Gladbach. Currently he's without a club as Borussia didn't want to extend his contract.
The defensive-minded winger played for all the DFB youth teams and even won the under-21 Euros in 2009 alongside players like Mesut Özil, Mats Hummels or Manuel Neuer. However, Johnson - son of a German mother and an American father - stated that he "always felt quite American", so it's no wonder that he accepted the invitation when USMNT coach Jürgen Klinsmann called him up to the US squad in 2011. Since then he participated in the World Cup 2014, the Copa América 2016 and several Gold Cups. His last international game to date was in September 2017.

Manuel Ott

Age: 28
Position: Central Midfielder
Current team: United City F.C.
National team: Philippines (51 matches, 4 goals)
"Manny" Ott also represented 1860 München during his youth career before eventually ending up at FC Ingolstadt's academy in 2009. He spent five year's in the Audi city before going to his mother's home country to play for Ceres-La Salle FC, who are now called United City F.C. He won several titles with the Filipino powerhouse and in fact returned to them in February 2020 after a wasted year in Thailand where he only managed to play one single game for Ratchaburi Mitr Phol F.C. due to a tibia fracture.
Ott played his first senior game for the Philippines on 16 January 2010 at only 17 years of age. A scout had been sent out to find players in Europe who are eligible for the Filipino team. The midfielder's first goal followed in a 3-0 win over Cambodia in 2014.

Mike Ott

Age: 25
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Current team: United City F.C.
National team: Philippines (21 matches, 3 goals)
Another one? Yes! Mike Ott followed his big brother's footsteps and also graduated from 1860's youth system before joining Nürnberg in 2014. He was unable to impress in the first team and instead played for Nürnberg's under-23 team in the fourth tier. After three seasons, he decided to start on an adventure in Asia instead, so he made the switch to Angthong F.C. in Thai League 2. He had a decent stint in Thailand which made his brother's club Ceres offer him a contract in 2018. The new owners changed the team's name but re-signed both brothers in this summer. What are the Otts?
Mike was part of the Filipino national team for the first time in 2013 but didn't get to enter the pitch. His debut actually only came in October 2016 against Bahrain and he even scored the goal in his team's 1:3 loss.

Mehmet Ekici

Age: 30
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Current team: -
National team: Turkey (12 matches, 0 goals)
"Memo" Ekici began playing football for former Bundesliga outfit SpVgg Unterhaching, but he quickly became a member of FC Bayern's youth system. He made it onto Bayern's bench in 2009/10 but never played a minute for Bayern's senior squad. For the following season he was loaned out to fellow Bundesliga team Nürnberg where the young talent impressed alongside fellow German Turk Ilkay Gündogan. While the latter was bought by Borussia Dortmund, Ekici went to Werder Bremen. He never really broke through in the Hanseatic city and was eventually sold to Trabzonspor in 2014. In his first season he scored 9 goals and assisted another 11, but he couldn't replicate those numbers afterwards. In early 2017 he was suspended by Trabzonspor because he insisted on a transfer to Fenerbahce instead of Besiktas which Trabzonspor preferred. When his contract ran out after the season he finally joined Fener and played there until last season, albeit with mediocre success.
Ekici played for the German youth national teams before the Turkish FA convinced him to play for them after his strong start to the 2010/11 season. He debuted against the Netherlands in November 2010 but never managed to play a major part in the Crescent-Stars' team. His last appearance to date was in 2015.

Ceyhun Gülselam

Age: 32
Position: Defensive Midfielder
Current team: Alanyaspor
National team: Turkey (6 matches, 0 goals)
Gülselam spent the 1994/95 season at mighty Gartenstadt Trudering before spending 8 years in FC Bayern's junior teams. In 2006 he went to Unterhaching where he experienced his first games in 2. Bundesliga. They were relegated, but Gülselam still stayed for another season. He seems to have impressed some Turkish scouts as Trabzonspor decided to pick him up in 2008. Since then he has been playing for several teams in the Süper Lig with his current employer being Alanyaspor. Between 2014 and 2016 he spent two seasons in the Bundesliga at Hannover 96, he scored his only Bundesliga goal in a match against Leverkusen in November 2014.
Gülselam made his debut for the Turkish national team in March 2008, when coach Fatih Terim called him up for a friendly against Belarus. His last match took place nearly 11 years ago, he assisted a goal and was sent off shortly afterwards against Armenia.

Tarik Camdal

Age: 29
Position: Right Back
Current team: Adana Demirspor
National team: Turkey (6 matches, 1 goal)
Camdal spent most of his footballing youth in Ingolstadt, playing 8 years for Türkgücü Ingolstadt before going to MTV Ingolstadt at 13 years of age. When they played against 1860 Munich's youth team, the Lions' people in charge were so impressed that they offered Camdal a transfer right after the game. In 2009 he made his debut in the 2. Bundesliga and made several apperances in the senior team until 2011. For the season 2011/12 Süper Lig team Eskisehirspor decided to bring him to Turkey. He spent 3 seasons in Eskisehir before going to Galatasaray where he even got to play in the Champions League. He was loaned back to Eskisehir in 2016/17 but the loan didn't really help him with establishing himself at Gala. After several quarrels his contract was terminated in early 2019 and he went to Antalyaspor for the remainder of the season. Today he plays for Adana Demirspor in the second tier.
Camdal played for DFB's under-19 team but later decided to kick the ball for Turkey. His first of six call-ups to the national team was in November 2013 after a strong start of the season with Eskisehirspor. His last match followed about one year later. During his time in the national team he scored one goal in a friendly against Ireland.

Philipp Ospelt

Age: 27
Position: Left Midfielder
Current team: USV Eschen-Mauren
National team: Liechtenstein (5 matches, 0 goals)
Ospelt is yet another graduate of FC Bayern's youth where he played up to the under-19s. In 2010 he went to play for FC Buchs and later Young Fellows Juventus in Switzerland's lower leagues. In January 2012 he transferred to USV Eschen-Mauren, a team from Liechtenstein that - like all the outfits from the tiny country - play in the Swiss league system. Liechtenstein's only competition is the Liechtenstein Cup, which Ospelt and his colleagues went on to win in 2012. In 2013 he was picked up by Liechtenstein's best team FC Vaduz where he played until 2018 - with the exception of a short stint at WSG Wattens in Austria in 2016. After taking a short break, Ospelt returned to football in early 2019. He now plays for Eschen-Mauren again, currently in the fourth tier of Swiss football.
Ospelt's record for the national team is very weird. His first match was in 2012 against Lithuania, his second and third followed in 2016 and the fourth in 2017. His last appearance to date was last week, when Liechtenstein won 2:0 against powerhouse San Marino. However, Ospelt never started a match, in fact his longest appearance was three minutes long. If you add up all his minutes since he was first called up 8 years ago, you get a whopping NINE minutes of time on the pitch.

Nicola Sansone

Age: 29
Position: Left Winger
Current team: FC Bologna
National team: Italy (3 matches, 0 goals)
Nicola Sansone's career began in Eastern Munich, at SV Neuperlach. He then played for FC Bayern from 2002 until 2011. He made his debut for Bayern's under-23 team in February 2010 when he came on as a substitute for none other than David Alaba. In October 2010 he got to spend 90 minutes on the bench of the Bundesliga squad in a match against Freiburg. From 2011 on he was a Parma player, although he spent his first season on loan at Crotone. He had a decent spell both there and later in Parma which made Sassuolo buy him in early 2014. After two and a half very successful seasons Sansone was picked up by Villareal who paid 13 million € for the German Italian attacker. He had two pretty good seasons in La Liga, however things didn't work any more in 2018/19 which made Bologna loan Sansone during the winter transfer window. He is a key player in their squad ever since as the team from Emilia-Romagna decided to make the deal permanent in the following summer.
Sansone never really considered to play for Germany as he played for the Italian junior teams from under-17s up until the under-21s. Thanks to an impressive time at Sassuolo, coach Antonio Conte called Sansone up to the senior team in 2015, when he made his debut as a subsitute against Portugal. He was able to add two more matches to his tally in 2016, the last one being against his country of birth - Germany.

Lucas Hufnagel

Age: 26
Position: Central Midfielder
Current team: SpVgg Unterhaching
National team: Georgia (2 matches, 0 goals)
Hufnagel's first team was TSV Milbertshofen in the north of Munich. In 2001 he was picked up by FC Bayern where he spent ten years of his early footballing career. In 2011 he went to FC Ingolstadt only to transfer to SpVgg Unterhaching one year later. He slowly established himself as a key player in Unterhaching's senior team which made SC Freiburg sign him for their 2015/16 2. Bundesliga campaign. He got quite a bit of game time, but that changed after Freiburg's promotion in 2016. Hufnagel was demoted to the second team and consequently loaned out to Nürnberg in January 2017. However he failed to leave a real mark there as well and finally returned to Unterhaching in 2018 to play in the 3. Liga. He is a staple in their squad, having played well over 2000 minutes in both of the last two league seasons.
Hufnagel never had a real chance to become a German international however he was eligible for Georgia as well because of his Georgian mother. He made his debut in 2015 against Estonia and played another 4 minutes against Serbia in 2017. Before his senior debut he already played some games for the country's junior teams.

Kingsley Ehizibue

Age: 25
Position: Right Back
Current team: 1. FC Köln
National team: Nigeria (0 matches, 0 goals)
Ehizibue was born in Munich to Nigerian parents. When he was two years old, the family moved to Zwolle in the Netherlands. He played for local club CSV '28 before joining PEC Zwolle's youth system from which he later graduated. He made his professional debut in October 2014 in a cup game and played his first Eredivisie game two months later against Willem II. Since 2016 he was a permanent member of the first team and managed to become a key player. In 2019, after their promotion to the Bundesliga, 1. FC Köln picked him up and gave him a chance to shine in the country of his birth. He instantly became Cologne's starting right-back and played in 31 out of 34 possible league games.
Ehizibue played one match for the Dutch under-21s in 2016, which remains his only international experience to date. However, Nigeria's coach Gernot Rohr called him up to the Super Eagles' AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone back in March. But due to the pandemic the fixture is yet to be played.

Koray Altintay

Age: 28
Position: Right Back
Current team: Fatih Karagümrük
National team: Turkey (0 matches, 0 goals)
Altintay's career began at SC Fürstenfeldbruck, where he stayed until he was 19 years old. After one squeezed in year at FC Bayern under-23s, 2. Bundesliga team Jahn Regensburg picked him up in 2012. He left the Jahn again in 2013 in order to play for Caykur Rizespor in the Süper Lig. He was a regular starter for them and managed to impress the scouts of Osmanlispor who signed him in 2016. He played some matches for the Ankara-based outfit, including one Europa League group fixture, but ultimately failed to establish himself. As a consequence he returned to Rizespor in early 2018 to help them to get back into the Süper Lig after their recent relegation. They indeed clinched promotion but Altintay failed to prove himself again in the following 2018/19 campaign. In September 2019 he joined Fatih Karagümrük and was an important part of their successful 1. Lig campaign. Altintay scored a goal in the promotion play-off semi-finals, Karagümrük went on to win the final in a thrilling penalty shoot-out and get back into Süper Lig after 36 years of absence.
After a strong start in 2013 with Caykur Rizespor, Fatih Terim let him join the Turkish national team for two friendlies against Northern Ireland and Belarus in November. However, he didn't get any time on the pitch and was never nominated again.

Alejandro Duarte

Age: 26
Position: Goalkeeper
Current team: FC Juárez
National team: Peru (0 matches, 0 goals)
There's not much information about Alejandro Duarte's youth on the internet. With his full name being Alejandro Christoph Duarte Preuss, I reckon that he probably has a German mother. However, he spent his first years as a goalkeeper at the FRAMA football academy in Lima before joining Esther Grande de Bentin, a semi-professional club from the suburbs of the Peruvian capital. In 2010, he returned to Germany to play for Bayer Leverkusen's under 17 team. He left the Werkself again in 2011 and continued to play for Juan Aurich's junior team in Peru before breaking into their senior squad. He made his first league debut in 2013 in a 1:1 draw against Inti Gas. He went on to join Club Cienciano in 2015 and later Deportivo Municipal in 2016 but didn't get much game time at either club. This changed when Duarte was signed by USM Porres in 2017. Duarte finally got to play more games between the sticks which secured him move to Mexico in 2018 when Lobos BUAP decided to sign him. After an unsuccessful stint at the team from Puebla, the keeper joined FC Juárez but was immediately loaned out to Club Atlético Zacapetec in the second league. He was their main goalkeeper, however the club was dissolved and he recently returned to Juárez.
Duarte was called up for Peru's friendlies against Croatia and Iceland in March 2018. He wasn't granted any game time however. Thus, his three matches for Peru's under-19s remain his only international appearances.

Jonathan Klinsmann

Age: 23
Position: Goalkeeper
Current team: LA Galaxy
National team: USA (0 matches, 0 goals)
Klinsmann junior was born during his father Jürgen's time at FC Bayern. His mother is an American model. Jonathan shortly lived in Genoa when Jürgen played for Sampdoria before the family moved to California after Jürgen's career. Jonathan started his career as a striker for FC Blades 96 and Irving Lasers. In 2008 he followed his father - who accepted a job as FC Bayern head coach - back to Germany and was retrained into a goalkeeper by FC Bayern's academy. After his return to California, Klinsmann played for Pateadores and Strikers FC in the US Soccer Development Academy. He also represented his high school between 2011 and 2014 and later played for the California Golden Bears, Berkeley university's college team. During the summer of 2017, Klinsmann had several trials at European teams like VfB Stuttgart, West Ham and Everton. After another trial at Hertha BSC, the capital city club signed the American. He played one match for Hertha's senior team - a Europa League fixture against Östersunds FK - and he even saved a penalty. He joined St. Gallen in 2019 where he became the goalkeeper for the Swiss Cup matches. However, he got red carded in the second round and the team got knocked out by FC Winterthur. In August 2020 Klinsmann joined the LA Galaxy.
Klinsmann played for various US youth teams before being called up to the senior USMNT in November 2018. He was an injury replacement for Zack Steffen for the team's friendlies against England and Italy but ultimately stayed on the bench.

Anes Osmanoski

Age: 20
Position: Central Midfielder
Current team: Bregalnica Stip
National team: North Macedonia (0 matches, 0 goals)
Osmanoski played for 1860 München until he was 13 years old. He then transferred to SpVgg Unterhaching's youth teams and stayed at the club until 2019 when he decided to move to his parents' home country North Macedonia. He now plays for Bregalnica Stip in the Eastern group of the Macedonian second division. They finished the season in second place, barely missing out on promotion. To be honest, I can't tell you much more about his career as he's still very young and there's not that much information on the second tier of Macedonian football.
Osmanoski played for several junior national teams of his country and is in fact a current member of the under-20 team. However, he was called up for a friendly of the senior national team in 2017 when he was just 17 years old. Macedonia - back then still without the "North" - won 2:0 against Norway but little Osmanoski did not get any minutes on the pitch with the big guys.

  • Dave has results from the poll he put up before March 27. Out of 532 responses, 504 enjoyed Clash more, with only 20 liking Wrestlemania more, and 8 rating them roughly equally. 489 voted for Clash as having the better card, while 39 picked Wrestlemania’s card, and 4 thought the cards were equal in quality. Only two picked a Wrestlemania match for match of the night, with Ted DiBiase vs. Randy Savage and DiBiase vs. Don Muraco each getting a vote. FlaiSting got 245 votes for match of the night while Midnight Express/Fantastics got 242 votes, and the NWA tag title match got 36 votes.
  • Anyway, it’s a really slow news week. So with the complete lack of anything interesting happening, Dave is gonna hit us with a bunch of semi-organized thoughts and such.
  • Hulk Hogan and Sting are the two guys coming out of Sunday with the most buzz. The level of response Sting has been getting cements him as the #2 babyface in the country, jumping past Savage and the Road Warriors quite quickly. Sting’s a guy who never had a big push before a couple months ago, had never gotten a clean pin on a major star, he’s never even won a singles title in NWA. He’s good for his experience level, but he’s very unpolished, and he’s not a good talker. But the man has some kind of charisma and fans have latched onto it, and Sting/Flair is now the most viewed match in modern NWA history and potentially the most viewed match in U.S. cable tv history. Ric Flair deserves a lot of credit for the match turning out and for giving Sting the rub, but you can’t get over off a rub like that if you don’t have something to you. Unfortunately, they don’t have a lot of options for sustaining his push and keeping his momentum going. He’s worked Flair for four months now, and there’s no other heel he can have a meaningful feud with without cooling off. So Dave worries they’re going to whiff and fail to catch lightning in a bottle with Sting.
  • Wrestlemania’s numbers may be down, but ppv kept it from being a flop financially. Roughly 585,000 homes paid $19.95 to watch Wrestlemania IV, roughly a 6% buyrate (maybe as high as 6.5%), which means a gross of $11.7 million. With closed circuit, live gate, and the site fee Trump paid, the total take is an estimated $16.3 million, with WWF pocketing roughly $7 million. Merch may get them another million. We’ll see the real success or failure when WWF returns in a month, because they’re taking four weeks off. So we’ll have to see if it’s profitable to off-set other losses of income - house show revenue leading to Wrestlemania was down from the same period as last year, and the summer slump is coming.
  • Clash drew an overall 5.8 rating and 12.6 share, being viewed in 2,561,000 homes in an average quarter hour. It’s not quite Royal Rumble ratings, but interestingly the audience grew every quarter hour. You’d never see that in a modern Raw, that’ for sure. FlaiSting topped out at a 7.1 rating/15 share with 3,138,000 homes on average, with the final 15 minutes having just under 3.5 million watching. Quite possibly the most watched slot of wrestling ever on cable tv. No matter how you slice it (ratings services assume a household means 2.2 viewers, based on their averages). Dave figures for wrestling the number may be closer to 3 particularly for ppv, but no matter how you slice it Wrestlemania didn’t have near as many viewers as Clash.
  • Dave thinks there’s a criticism of Wrestlemania that isn’t really just: the card was too long. For what was billed (16-18 matches), it wasn’t too long, and the card only went 3 hours 40 minutes with a 12 minute intermission. Most matches were under 6 minutes, and cutting time would have made them even shorter. The card may not have been good, and it may seem long because of its badness, but any shorter and all the complaints would have been about the lack of wrestling.
  • For Clash, Dave thinks the criticism of there being too many commercials is a bad one. Seeing that quality a show for free? You can live with commercials and let the advertisers foot the bill. And they didn’t break any match up with commercials. Sure, the breaks were longer than usual, but they avoided cutting off the action so it’s all good.
  • For the most just criticisms of both shows, Dave thinks the Wrestlemania crowd and judging for FlaiSting take the cake. The crowd at Wrestlemania was papered with non-fans who didn’t know the characters and stories, and even WWF operates at a level of complexity above the ability to just grab a random off the street and expect them to grasp everything and react appropriately with no background knowledge. As for Clash, they botched the judging completely. Nobody clarified if a judges’ decision could cause a title change. Having one judge be a Penthouse Pet on Ric Flair’s arm the day before on tv strains credulity to the breaking point. They promised a winner and gave a draw. They never made clear that Jason Hervey and Ken Osmond weren’t actually judges and were just sitting at the judges’ table as celebrities. If Flair and Sting had been average or even bad, this judging stuff could have completely ruined the show in Dave’s opinion.
  • Dave thinks the best swerve related to either show happened the week before in Springfield, Illinois. Santana and Martel came out wearing the WWF tag titles for a match scheduled to air after Wrestlemania, which made Dave expect them to keep the belts. Turns out they got into it with Slick and chased him to the back, and the ring attendant brought the belts to the back, then they re-entered without the belts and the cameras didn’t start rolling until the second entrance. Clever work by WWF there.
  • Martel and Santana getting booed at Wrestlemania remains the most puzzling thing about the night for Dave. Even at the closed-circuit sites Dave got reports from, fans there booed them. At first Dave assumed it was because Demolition are kind of Road Warrior knockoffs, but reports Dave got indicate that they got booed a lot too, so Dave has no clue why fans aren’t feeling Strike Force.
  • WWF and NWA each have a candidate for “best case of assuming fans have memory loss” with their shows. WWF gets theirs for the evil twin Hebner angle. A few weeks back it was being hailed as a great angle, but once it became clear the tournament was flopping as an angle, they dropped all mention of it. Never got brought up at Wrestlemania, and Earl Hebner even refereed several matches in the tournament without any mention of his name, Dave Hebner’s name, or any referee even being named. Meanwhile, NWA’s handling of Steve Williams returning gets a mention as well. Not only is he no longer mentioned as UWF champion, they’re acting like the UWF championship has never existed. And we thought McMahon was the worst when it came to ignoring wrestling history. They also forgot his heel turn from before he quit and his feud with Barry Windham, since he and Windham are teaming on the April 17 WTBS Main Event show.
  • WWF still wins the PR game, even if they had less than a third the viewership on Sunday. All news media converge of the weekend in wrestling was about WWF. Even CNN, owned by Ted Turner, gave five minutes coverage to Wrestlemania and ignored the Clash, and several outlets went along with WWF’s claim of having 10 million U.S. viewers. USA today went so far as to claim 50 million. The lesson is obvious - NWA will be ignored in the media unless they start lying, and lying huge, just like WWF. And don’t blame WWF - until the media calls them on it, they’ve got no reason not to lie.
  • So back to USA Today and their claim of 50 million viewers in 38 countries, that’s just not true. 36 of those countries have to be fictitious, because the U.S. was the only country getting Wrestlemania on ppv, Canada was the only other country with closed-circuit, and no other countries had it on free tv. They’ll probably be on free tv in about a year in the Middle East (Dave’s comedian brother toured over there last year and WWF is big there, but they’re about 11 months behind on tapes). For Wrestlemania to have had 50 million viewers would require an average of about 90 people at every home that bought it on ppv.
  • Compared to previous Wrestlemanias, Wrestlemania was pretty bad on all fronts. The card was the worst yet by a large margin. It drew the worst on closed-circuit, only drawing half the numbers of Wrestlemanias 1 and 3. Due to the increased reach of ppv this year, it’s probably similar overall to Wrestlemania 3 in terms of overall money from ppv, but the buyrate was only a little over half the previous buyrates.
  • Most Quickly forgotten major attraction: The Rock and Roll Express.
  • Ric Flair gets spot of the night. At the 43 minute mark, he flipped into the turnbuckle and landed on his feet on the apron before going over to the other corner to come off with a flying body press that Sting reversed for a near fall.
  • Hogan wins the best smartass remark. When asked by a reporter whether him not winning the tournament meant he’d be going to the movies, he said “Yeah, I’m going to see Fatal Attraction.”
  • George Steele getting that green gets a note here for the best ratio of getting paid to doing work. Steele never even got in the ring or laid hands on anyone during the battle royal. Nevertheless, he surely got a handsome check. Get paid, Georgie.
  • Wrestlemania wasn’t supposed to be available on satellite, but was. Dish owners got the show descrambled, just without audio. Honestly, it’s probably an improved experience.
  • Dave poses a question and provides his own analysis: would Crockett and McMahon trade places? Crockett would surely take a $16 million gross for a show that is objectively an artistic failure, no doubt about that. Would McMahon prefer to have a great show that sabotaged his competition, even if he made less money? Very probably.
  • Dave makes a snide remark about what WWF can sell to counter the Four Horsemen vitamins (which he calls a total joke). For $39.95 you’ll get the perfect system you can use to calm “hyperactive children and put them to sleep, and help your own insomnia late at night.” Wrestlemania IV the video tape.
Watch: there's so little this week, so here, watch Wrestling With Wregret's review of Wrestlemania IV
  • Dave gives himself the worst analysis award. His read that Crockett couldn’t hurt WWF and that Wrestlemania would gross $25 million was so wrong it’s laughable, and his only solace is that he didn’t make the most ridiculous projections. That award goes to WWF. What this weekend really proved is that fans pretty much only care about personalities and belts mean nothing.
  • Big props to the Fantastics, because they worked their asses off.
  • Duggan being unable to have a good match with DiBiase is the saddest sight of the two shows for Dave. Especially sad considering the match they had in August that was pretty good, despite Duggn weighing over 300 lbs and blowing out his hamstring and blowing up within two minutes. And that was still a better match.
  • Dave says Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, Bam Bam, and the Road Warriors all lost steam on Sunday. Savage is particularly notable, being the first guy to lose steam while winning a world title.
  • For years, Flair has lost a lot while Hogan wins all the time, which would make the average mark think Hogan is better. A mark watching both shows this past Sunday may well come away thinking Flair is a better wrestler.
  • Does this mean the wrestling boom times are over? Well, we’re down from the peak and wrestling is overexposed nationwide. Smaller promotions are not going to survive, and the big ones are drawing smaller crowds. Wrestlemania is probably just a stubbed toe for WWF. It’ll hurt for a short bit, but things will go back to normal soon enough.
  • Finally, Dave looks to the future. Crockett is undoubtedly the big winner on March 27 and they’ve turned momentum around by proving they can present a show right and give quality matches that lead to a show that WWF’s glitz can’t match. They won’t surpass WWF to become number one, but they don’t need to. Their success does not depend on WWF. Their success depends on their audience, and the enthusiasm of their audience has breathed life into them once again. And yet, they’re still making unforced errors. Saturday after the Clash, they have Flair and Sting headlining matches in both Baltimore and Philadelphia, having to rush a match in one city, drive to the other quick, and do it again. It’s a recipe for two bad shows. And as long as they keep doing stuff like that which makes their live shows bad, they’re going to fail to be what they can be and they’ll start to slide again. And they have a lot of potential. Given their ratings for Clash, they may not have as many fans as WWF, but for all WWF’s advantages NWA is far closer to WWF than you’d think they would be. They’re real competition at this stage, and it’s ironic because until Vince decided to pick a fight on Thanksgiving and again in January, they simply were not any kind of competition to WWF. Vince forced Crockett to have to retaliate, and it gave Crockett the motivation to take steps he never would have taken before. Still, we’re back to NWA being the Dusty Rhodes show. Every heel talks about Dusty in their promos and half the faces as well. It’s what hurt them last year, putting all their eggs in Dusty’s basket, and just as they begin having some success, they go right to the poisoned well again. Then again, their most recent main event show was really good, so maybe they are on the right track.
  • Nobody in Hollywood knows anything about any Hulk Hogan movie. So that whole biopic that we’ve been talking about for months? Yeah, that doesn’t seem to be a thing and won’t be for over 30 years when they cast Hulk Hogan properly: as a beautiful Australian man with the body of a Norse god. Anyway, Hogan’s definitely taking time off, what with his child being born soon. As for any momentum lost, WWF will probably mitigate that issue with clever sound editing to make Wrestlemania look like a success. What matters to WWF is image, not substance. If they can make their fans believe the show was a success, it will cease to be a failure. They’ve got some truly magical powers there, but there are problems they need to overcome. And the biggest is that nobody except Hogan is truly over. They spent months building angles that flopped (such as Heenan vs. Matilda) and nothing they’re hyping next has any kind of box office potential. Do you think after what we got at Wrestlemania people are going to want to see Rude vs. Roberts? JYD vs. Ron Bass? Duggan vs. Andre? Savage vs. DiBiase won’t mean anything.
  • In closing, Dave says the moral of the story is that WWF made good short-term moves that came back to bite them big. They destroyed Crockett on Thanksgiving, costing Crockett over $2 million of their potential for Starrcade and keeping them off ppv in a big way. On January 24, they ran a free show against the Bunkhouse Stampede to sabotage the show. Crockett’s retaliation in March, however, showed they have a cable audience nearly as large as WWF’s and they cost Wrestlemania several million dollars in lost revenue. It may be a lucky day for them. Maybe it’s a turning point for wrestling as a whole that we’ll be talking about years from now. But the main takeaway is Vince has nobody to blame but himself. Live by the sword, die by the sword, what goes around comes around.
  • As we all know, WWF ran an ad during Clash of the Champions. Apparently they bought five ad slots under a fake company name. Four of them were caught, but one made it to air.
  • Wrestlemania V is scheduled for March 19, 1989. That's all Dave knows.
  • Financial News Network has begun airing weekly main events from Memphis on Saturday nights. The April 2 show had Eddie Gilbert and Jerry Lawler from March 28, while next week will be Curt Hennig vs. Jerry Lawler in a stretcher match. NWF is scheduled to do a tv taping later this month for FNN which will debut in that timeslot, but for now Memphis will continue airing.
Watch: Eddie Gilbert vs. Jerry Lawler, parking lot brawl
  • This past Sunday NWA debuted their NWA Main Event show and it was good. The show was taped on March 31 and had a super invested crowd and it showed on tv. It really helps matches to have a crowd that’s going crazy for every spot (looking at you, Corpus Christi). Some production issues aside, it’s becoming a lot of fun to watch the NWA. Road Warriors squashed Super Destroyer and Larry Zbyzkso, Dusty beat Ivan Koloff for the U.S. title in a surprisingly good 6 minute match, and FlaiBlanchard/Anderson beat LugeWindham/Sting in an excellent match.
  • [AJW] Chigusa Nagayo and AJW toured Thailand two weeks back and drew big during their visit. Crowds ranged from 8,000-11,000 and the Bangkok newspaper called them “The new craze of Thailand.” Not everybody’s quite so impressed, though, Dave notes. One Thai reporter wrote this: “I didn’t know that women’s wrestlin[g] was drawing so much attention in Thailand. The visit of the Japanese wrestlers has created tremendous interest and according to promoter Sombhop Srisomwongse, a record crowd is expected tonight at the National Stadium. How surprising it is that a few women with about two months of training and especially big framework, a few flying kicks and some TV exposure could be a draw here when traditional Olympic sports like Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling failed to find a foothold.”
  • [All Japan] When Brody won the International Title from Jumbo Tsuruta on March 27, he went into the crowd and started hugging the fans. It got him over huge as a babyface. Brody’s one of the smartest guys in the business, seriously.
  • During an All Japan press conference with Tiger Jeet Singh and Abdullah the Butcher, Singh went nuts and started attacking reporters (?). I think it’s reporters. Dave wrote “reports” but the context of a melee makes me think reporters. Anyway, Butcher did stuff too once things got out of hand and wound up throwing a glass, which hit the head of a Gong Magazine reporter hard enough that he bled and needed two stitches.
  • The Malenko brothers met Mike Tyson when they were in Japan. Tyson’s “all the rage” over in Japan, and he thought they were the British Bulldogs. The Malenkos went along with it and pretended to be the Bulldogs until he asked if he could pet Matilda.
  • WCCW’s financial issues have caused significant cutbacks to tv tapings. They’re running shows in Fort Worth every third week now, a cutback from every other week and a far cry from the weekly shows they used to run dating all the way back to the 40s, and these shows are four hour tv tapings. The regular tv show is also taping only every three weeks.
  • WCCW may move the May 8 Parade of Champions show to the Cotton Bowl from Texas Stadium. Nothing certain yet, but there’s talk of some kind of triple cage gimmick.
  • The Penthouse Von Erich story has been dropped from the July issue. No reschedule has been announced.
  • Fabulous Lance still hasn’t shown up in WCCW because he extended his South Africa tour, where he’s a babyface. He’s even using the Von Erich name down there. There’s legit heat between him and Kevin and Kerry due to all the stuff that went down when he left and Fritz’s burial of him, and Dave just wonders how bad a Lance vs. Kevin match would be in the best of circumstances, never mind if they can’t stand each other enough to cooperate.
  • Not much details about the March 28 Memphis card, but Lawler threw fire in Eddie Gilbert’s face. The Bruise Brothers (Harris brothers) won the Southern Tag titles from Gary Young and Max Pain. The crowd had 5,500.
  • Memphis dropped ticket prices for students to $1 for the April 4 show to ensure good turnout for Jerry Lawler vs. Curt Hennig in a non-title stretcher match. Eddie Gilbert is also putting up a $25,000 bounty for anyone who can break Lawler's leg. Gilbert’s gone from the territory, but he’s supposedly going to keep sending promo tapes in to keep the bounty thing going as part of a working arrangement between Memphis, Continental, Jerry Blackwell’s Georgia promotion, and the Florida promotion Steve Keirn and Jerry Jarrett are talking about starting. Also, Missy Hyatt will be managing Hennig in the Lawler match.
  • WWF has announced a bunch of post-Wrestlemania shows with Savage/DiBiase headlining through the end of May, at the very least. No sign of Hogan anywhere through that period.
  • All of the letters are reactions to Sunday’s shows. Some choice quotes presented without other context:
“If someone had spent millions of dollars on an anti-wrestling propaganda piece, he couldn’t have approached the job that Vince did on himself this weekend.”
“Crockett smashes. Titan crashes.”
“$17 for pay-per-view and $20 for pizzas, pretzels and chips. And what did I get for it? Nothing. Wrestlemania was a bore, plain and simple.”
“Vince has sucked me into my last PPV. Never again.”
”The Crockett wrestlers put on one hell of a show. It was better than Titan’s They had to. They’re number two. But the booking still left a lot to be desired.”
”Titan usually learns from its mistakes.”
”I thought Wrestlemania IV was better because of superior atmosphere and the fact that the guys all tried to work hard.”
”Vince went for flash and name dropping. Crockett went for good wrestling. Crockett succeeded.”
  • Ron Simmons may be headed to New Japan in May.
  • Verne Gagne has started showing lots of pre-1984 tape of WWF main guys like Hogan, Ventura, etc. Why? To build his tv ratings by showing that he used to have the guys who get the ratings now. It’s a clear sign he’s pretty much giving up on house shows and is looking to keep alive through small sold shows enough to keep producing tapes for ESPN. The death of the AWA is a slow, pathetic thing that already feels really drawn out, and there’s still years left.
  • [NWA] The Dusty Rhodes suspension has been delayed and won’t be announced until this weekend’s television, and will go into effect April 16. The reason is to allow him to wrestle April 15 in Boston Gardens. They’ve already got Midnight Rider appearances booked for some shows, though.
  • Nikita Koloff will face Ric Flair on night two of the Crockett Cup. Sting would make the most sense, given how hot he is. Luger or Steve Williams would be hot, since they’ve never had the opportunity. Even Windham would at least guarantee a fantastic match. But Dusty’s giving the match to Koloff. Whatever reasons he has, they have little to do with making sense.
  • Magnum T.A. is being sued by Charlotte Memorial Hospital and Charlotte Rehabilitation Hospital for $56,692 in back medical care. His medical expenses have gone over $100,000, and his insurance coverage only covers $25,000. Related, a Toronto spinal cord expert has proposed an operation which he claims will give Magnum full use of his bad limbs and even a slim chance of returning to the ring.
  • Syndicated ratings for the week ending March 13 have WWF in 4th place with a 10.7 on 248 stations. Crockett ranks 6th with a 7.8 on 178 stations, and All-Star Wrestling (AWA, GLOW, etc.) ranks 9th with a 7.2 on 174 stations.
  • There’s a planned wrestling movie with Roddy Piper for a Christmas release. Nothing comes of this. But it’s nice that Piper has so many movie role ideas being thrown at him.
  • [All Japan] The thing with Tenryu and Hansen has made Stan Hansen’s popularity surge in Japan. They worked the shoot all the way to Tenryu’s hotel room, with Tenryu leaving the arena early and Hansen looking for him in the dressing room and later going to Tenryu’s hotel to try and find him, but Tenryu wouldn’t leave the room. Fans in Japan now believe Tenryu, the hottest wrestler in the country, is afraid of Hansen, which puts Hansen in that upper echelon of guys who come off as “real” like Brody and Akira Maeda.
  • Jim Shyman’s 976 wrestling hotline in L.A. was rated top 976 number in an L.A. publication. It’s the first time Dave’s seen anything pro wrestling top any chart in any category.

2020.09.16 15:27 Dupa-Man UFC 4- An overpriced, half finished game

UFC 3 had it's issues and still has but it was one of if not the best UFC game EA has created. And over the 2 or so years that it got updated over, it was made into a solid game for it's price. UFC 4 got announced and the trailers looked pretty good and me being a very big UFC fan and that likes MMA pre-ordered the game because it actually looked good and damn the career mode trailer that was instant nut but sadly I forgot who is making the game, EA and I fell for their trap.
BETA
Before the game came out we gotten a beta and well EA didn't even change some of the fighter models until the community gotten angry and gave them a lot of back lash and the graphics looked worse then 3 which was worrying but they fixed some of those things in the actual "Full" game release.
BUGS, STUPID ADD ON'S AND CHANGES
Anyone that played UFC 4 for an hour will experience bugs, the most frequent i get is when I takedown someone in the clinch, the opponent and I have a stroke and he gets back up or when I takedown someone the camera has a spazem and keeps moving making it hard to defend transitions on the ground and the popular, purple screen where the fight is happening but you can't see anything, it has been patched but still and very game breaking bug that a lot of people had which I'm surprised that no game tester found this one out. EA has also made brain dead changes or added stupid things no one asked for, Create a fighter is a good example, why can't we choose moves and stats? Instead we have to choose from the pre-sets which just means your fighter isn't really unique expect from the looks because, you can change the fighter style before the match starts. And the looks... who asked for a lion mask, or gucci shorts? We want a game that makes us feel like we are in the Octogon, fighting but without actually getting brain damage or getting cuts on our faces but instead we can fight a lion wearing gucci clothes, why not add judo robes or something like that? Oh nah who would want that it's all about getting roundhouse kick to the head by a cobra or a lion. Plus, they added emotes, bruh this ain't fortnite or something, not only that they are stupid as fuck and not cool emotes, still emotes wouldn't be too bad if you would do some stupid ass dance in front of your opponent. Other brain dead changes are the takedown defense, why is it R2 and L2, it was always R2 for the past 3 games, whyyy? And not only that the takedown button is the same as the punch buttons for the body, so you could be be fighting someone and hold the L2 and square button to long and go for a takedown and get countered with a submission.
GAMEPLAY, META
The gameplay for the striking is pretty much the same as UFC 3 but it doesn't feel like UFC 3, it feels more of a arcade game rather then a UFC game, not a lot changes except that you can have 3 moves that have identical button inputs which is just stupid and the amount of damage a person can take before getting knocked out is insane and punches and kicks take away barely any stamina. The ground game didn't change much at all, expect some different animations or moving to a position or being in a new ground and pound position which the ground pound is too easy to get and is very powerful and if a wrestler like Khabib gets you into postured up there is a good chance that the fight will end there, they removed elbows from top mount so the only potions you can do that in is full guard and side sadle and I've only reversed a person only like 10 times and I've been playing from launch pretty much everyday or so. Probably the biggest change to the ground game is that you get a assist which is cool I guess but its just better to learn the legacy version of the ground game (UFC 3 ground control). The clinch is probably the most broken thing in the game you can a lot of damage in the clinch and it's very confusing. Instead of adding a clinch assist to the clinch instead of the ground game would of been smart but nah, you have to learn the inputs. Some punches you can't even block even though you are holding the right block that can rock you or knock you down and there is no deny button for the clinch. The only way you can get out of it you have to move away from your opponent. The meta is just that people clinch and clinch and we thought the thai clinch was op back in UFC 3.
Career Mode
The career is an improvement from UFC 3 and is the best UFC career mode to date but most thing they added should of been in UFC 3. There is cool add on's like calling out fighters... oh wait you can't talk shit to fighters by yourself they have to speak to you first or ESPN or someone has to mention you and a fighter, which is disappointing cause how did they not think we would want to chat shit to everyone we fight, The fighter invite is just the same thing like learning moves from UFC 3. You can go down or up and stay at either one of the divisions. Training is basically sparring from UFC 3 but you have to complete a challenge to get upgrade coins or whatever they are used to upgrade your stats or to fix your stats after suffering a injury in the octagon or in training, you can also earn them when a move level ups which is when you use a certain move enough it levels up and it can be prestiged. And after you do that challenge you get a certain amount of bonus progression for a certain move which will level it up faster if you use it on your training partner. You get 4 different sparring partners- boxer, kick-boxer, wrestler and BBJ and you get challenges to do with that part of MMA and get a bonus on a move that is related to that part of MMA. If you knock out your opponent before the timer hits 0 you will not be able to use that partner because he or she is injured and you will get them back in the next camp for your next fight. You can enter the UFC through different ways like from the WFA, DWCS or get singed to UFC from the circuit when Uncle Dana comes looking for a new fighter you start at. Overall UFC 4'S career is an improvement but its nothing shocking.
New modes/ features
UFC 4 gives the classic modes like stand and bang and knockout modes with changes to the hud to look more of an arcade type of game in knockout brings new arena's from the career so any place you can fight in career you can fight in fight now and you also get the kumite arena (japanese fighting type ring of style with mortal kombat of sound effects) and back yard, you get custom fight now which let's you control pretty much most if not all aspects, you get a level system which gives you very very small amount of coins to buy cosmetics and for leveling up you get 3 random items which can be a quote, clothing items, icons or banners. You also get challenges which give you 150xp-2000xp which is very good and you can unlock items from them and you get different challenges for offline, online, career, daily etc. Overall the the features that are added are cool I guess are a cool but it doesn't really make the game amazing but it's still welcomed. Online wise you get the new blitz mode which you fight a random opponent for a minute and you move up to the get the blitz mode belt and if you loose once, you go back down to the start, this is a very cool mode and it makes every single move you do count. In the WCO you don't choose the weight class and the game changes the weight class every hour which is stupid in my opinion otherwise the changes and new features are decent.
Verdict/How EA has handled UFC 4 so far
It looked like EA was gonna handle the situation very well from the beta and from the trailers but that wasn't the case, it took them a while to fix the game breaking bugs like the purple screen bug etc and they still haven't fixed some of the bugs but after the month of the game being out they added ads to UFC 3 and UFC 4... yes, real life adds on the octagon and you get the ad play between rounds and before the fight which is absolutely unacceptable, and they only removed them when game websites wrote articles about it and did the classic " oh we are sorry, we should of asked the players and its clear that ads aren't welcome, we are sorry" classic PR EA shit, and because of them being summy as fuck the game verdict is...
3/10
If ads weren't added the game would be 5/10 but instead of improving the game they rather add ads in the game and make money from a broken, half finished game and plus the game £60 and its overpriced, the game at it's current state is £25-£30, £35 max but that's pushing it. Does UFC 4 have the potential to be the best UFC game we ever gotten from EA ? Yes, definitely but is that gonna happen any time soon? The way EA is acting right now... no way, give it 2 or so years and it will be probably the best UFC game EA created but then who knows, its EA after all.
Sorry if I missed out somethings or didn't go into detail into some aspects of the game, I don't have a lot of time to write reviews cause of personal stuff happening at the moment in my life but hope you enjoyed. Any questions or discussions are welcomed and if I got something wrong let me know and I'll fix it and put your Reddit username at the end or start of the review for helping getting the correct information for people that are wondering what UFC 4 has to offer. Thank you for reading.
“I got the game for $15 and it was worth every buck. $60 not so much though, this is the best breakdown of the game. Just an unfinished UFC game with a bunch of changes nobody asked for and no improvement where its needed”
People who gave their opinion about the game: VinceDead6,
Thank you for giving your opinion, I want this review to be the best in this sub Reddit and the best way to do that is by including the community’s thoughts and opinions about UFC 4, thank you.

2020.09.14 06:54 bedoublenegative Restaurants and Covid-19 Protocols/Enforcement

Not sure if this exists yet but I’ve been seeking a list of local restaurants/pubs/cafes and their pandemic protocols (such a staff enforcement, mask wearing, consistency, contact tracing, etc.) as well as any changes to regular service/menus.
If anyone is willing to share, I’ll try to keep this list updated as best as I can.

Note: This is all based on actual individual experiences. Please be aware that it isn't gospel. Visit at your own risk and contact the establishments for up to date info.
Updated Oct 9, 2020

Restaurants/Cafe's/Breweries

10 Acres Commons - Staff wearing masks, contact tracing on entry, sanitizer on entry and at bathrooms. Restricted bathroom capacity not being controlled or suggested. Plexi dividers on top of booth seating (approx 6 ft high). Tables slightly distanced (more so on patio). Bar seating does not have a barrier. No major menu changes.
Artisan Bistro in Broadmead - Contact tracing, keeping the doors open, tables very spaced out, well spaced patio as well, all staff wearing masks.
Baan Thai on Blanshard - Taking temps at the door, contact tracing, wearing masks and physical distancing.
Bard and Banker - staff wearing masks, contact tracing being taken at door, enforcing 6 person max per table/group with no socializing between tables. Sanitizer is plentiful at front door and bathroom. Not enforcing bathroom capacity. No major menu changes.
Beagle Pub - Inconsistent contact tracing as of a month ago. Some staff masked but not all. Bartender wiped nose then handled glassware a couple of times. Sanitizer plentiful and staff trying to physically distance/enforcing the 2 metre rule. Some staff congregating with patrons/hugging.
Bodega: all staff wear masks. Contact tracing all persons, tables spaced properly, 6+8 seats at the bar, behind plexiglass. Sanitizer everywhere. Single stalk bathrooms. Tables and chairs cleaned after each guest.
Boom and Batten - Staff have face shield mask combos, tables separated. Bathrooms are individual with cleaning schedule and we’re very clean. No menu changes (someone could confirm). Didn’t contact trace at door but with reservation they likely didn’t need to. May differ for walk in. No major menu changes.
Brentwood Bay Resort Pub - Contact tracing consistent. Sanitizer on entry. Tables inside and on patio both distanced, but no clear walkways to avoid tables en route to patio from inside. One defined entrance and one exit to minimize contact. Staff wearing masks, and asking for distance when bussing tables/bringing food/drink.
Browns Social House - Uptown - Staff wearing masks at all times. Tables removed or blocked for distancing. Contact tracing has been consistent. Hand sanitizer at each table. Paper disposable menus. Bathroom tight with more than one person. No menu changes.
Cafe Mexico - staff wearing masks, contact tracing information taken, some seating removed, larger patio area, reduced menu, plexiglass.
Category 12 Brewing - Unsure on contact tracing. Staff wearing masks. Plexi barriers in place, no growler fills. Distancing in line and seating inside and outside is well spaced. Staff meticulous in cleaning the tables and even sanitizing the seats. Felt like one of the safest local establishments.
Christie's Pub - has distanced tables (not removed but "don't sit here" sheets on them) and contact tracing at the door, and sanitizer at the front. The staff do not have masks. They have some plastic sheeting between some of the areas (if you have been there you know there are separate areas/rooms with half-height walls between them), and you can sit at the bar. They have an outdoor section as well that also has distanced tables. Paper menus, and also menus visible on the walls.
Drake Eatery - Very spaced out patios (upstairs and downstairs) in market square. Staff wearing masks, order at bar (plexiglas). Only interaction with staff was behind plexi and then self service taking your own drink to your table. Food is delivered by staff. Heat lamps outside. Inside seating is very well spaced (almost no tables inside). Contact tracing has been very consistent.
El Furniture Warehouse - all staff wearing masks, contact tracing information taken, larger patio area, plexiglass separating tables, some seating removed.
Fernwood Inn - some seating removed, larger patio area, most staff wearing masks.

Finn's - Little distancing on patio. Tables inside spaced out more than usual but very little. Guests approx 3-4 feet apart when seated (back to back). Contact tracing in progress. Staff have masks but both experiences I have had them fiddling with them or the fit wasn't correct. Sanitizer available at front and bathrooms. No major menu changes.
Fisherman's Wharf - Being monitored for distancing at entry on walkway with staff. Bathrooms distanced with markers. Many vendor line-ups distanced with markers, however most patrons not distancing from others when seated, walking around, etc. Most not wearing masks.
Four Mile Pub - Voluntary contact tracing at entrance, sanitizer at entrance. Tables not distanced super well. Staff wearing masks but saw many who removed them or pulled them down while at the bar handling drinks. Menu has shifted over the last few months but everything on current menu was available. Plexi at bar in pub area and downstairs. Can’t comment on restaurant side.
Garrick’s Head Pub - Serving staff and most kitchen staff wearing masks, bartenders not. Plexi dividers between tables and at the bar seats. Bathrooms iffy for cleaning. No sanitizer at tables but available at front door and bathroom. No major menu changes. Reports of staff congregating/hugging guests though, which may limit effectiveness of any of these measures.
House of Boateng: limited seating with an expanded patio, staff all wear masks, tables are sanitized and designated as 'serviced' between customers, one way traffic, contact tracing etc.
Il Sauvage Brewing - Contact tracing in place. Tables are fairly spaced on main level but it is a small space. No info on upper level. Sanitizer available. Staff masks unknown.
Il Terrazzo: removed around 70 seats, antique windows added as barriers between tables, servers wear masks but the wait staff did not. Felt a bit crowded.
Irish Times - Staff wearing masks, contact tracing in place, some barriers between seating and added outdoor seating for distancing on patio.
Leopolds - staff wearing masks, contact tracing, distanced seating & each booth area has barriers around it. You could sit at the bar and though there was no barrieplexiglass between you and the bartender, they had masks on. Might have had menus but had the QR code to look it up on your phone.

The Palms at Rialto - Contact tracing consistent, temp check at door, staff wearing masks consistently. Distancing is in place on bar side. No plexi divider though for bar seating between bar and patrons. Can’t comment on restaurant side yet. Bathrooms downstairs in hotel. Sanitizer available.

Distancing in place between staff and patrons. Growler fills available. Not all staff wearing masks. Patio on sidewalk for added seating (5-6 tables).

Spinnakers - Staff wearing masks, tables quite distanced. Contact tracing consistent. Pool room upstairs has capacity limit of 6 individuals. Upstairs has bar service currently, no table service/servers taking orders. Downstairs has servers. Menu has recently changed, but quite substantial still. They have also opened up a patio in the parking lot for additional capacity.

2020.09.10 12:47 Whatalotofnot A new relationship, which is a big thing for me anyway, may cause other problems and I need advice. Help please?

Hi Reddit.
First and foremost I'll apologise for any typo's as I'm doing this on my mobile. It maybe a bit long too as I tend to ramble a bit and go off on semi-relevant tangents.
OK.
So the history, I'll try not to give my whole life story but this is kinda relevant I think anyway:
About Me: I'd a bit of a rough upbringing (no fault of my parents I might add). I was bullied a lot in school till I was about 13.
I'm a very large person, always have been, not fat (although I do have a bit of a lockdown gut now), just large. I was 1 week premature and still came out over 11 lbs. (As my mother liked to remind me).
This made me an easy target, got picked on because of my size. At the time I was too daft to realise how stupid it is to pick on someone because they are significantly physically larger than average.
I also didn't do great in school, not due to lack of ability, but structure lessons didn't suit me not that I knew it at the time, but I couldn't be forced to learn if that makes sense. I needed to want to be learning about whatever it was. I did actually get diagnosed with ADHD in my teens eventually, but by then there were other issues. This might explain my habit of going of on Tangents/giving out TMI, etc.
The bullying and being perceived as "Stupid" in school, resulted in me being quite a shy and quiet person. I didn't have a lot of friends. Kept myself much to myself. Spent a lot of time making models and doing puzzles.
Things all changed when I learned a different method of dealing with bullies. We were at an event we saw my uncle (Bit of a black sheep of the family) having a verbal altercation with two other guys. They threatened my uncle and insulted him, at which point he laid them both out. Much to the dismay of my parents, he turned to me and said "That's how you deal with bullies"
Unfortunately, my parents had encouraged me to keep "Following the rules, use the system, tell a teacher" with best of a decade with no results.
I've then witnessed my uncle get instant results. At the time in my 13-year-old mind, he had the better idea.
As mentioned, a lot of kids bullied me because I was "big", knowing I was too timid to do anything about it.
All of a sudden I was fighting back and turned out I learned a few things: A) I was actually pretty good at fighting, and I kinda really enjoyed the adrenaline buzz from it. B) I was stronger than most the other kids at school. C) I was a bit of a sponge when it came to taking hits too. I could really take a punch.
This however then made me a target, the troublemakers at the school thought I can make a name for myself by taking out the big guy.
Puberty hit me like a ton of bricks and I looked like a full grown man by 15, (I actually looked out of place in the class picture and on Non-Uniform days was mistaken for staff by a visitor on two occasions).
This, plus the new bad boy image from all the fighting, made me very popular all of a sudden. Guys wanted to hang with me and the ladies were not in short supply either if you know what I mean.
The last few years of education was basically a lot of girlfriends, fighting, suspensions, exclusions, and later a lot of drinking and drugs.
At 18 a close friend of mine at the time died, due to his lifestyle, (much the same, drinking fighting drugs).
This caused me to get my head back on straight. A real wake up call. I got clean and managed to retake my GCSE's. Still did crap, but at least I got them.
Whilst I didn't want to "Fight" anymore, I did actually enjoy it. My parents pleased to see me trying to turn my life back around helped me to take up some martial arts, (Initially Tae-kwon-do, but I also took up Judo, JuJitsu. I've continued with Martial arts ever since and current do Muay Thai, and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. I've done some traditional boxing as well in the past)
Despite the help of MA, and trying to start fresh, everything was a reminder of how bad things got so I moved away away from home to start fresh, needed a new place. Brought a transit van, stuck a bed in the back and moved to another part of the UK.
Found some new martial arts clubs, and got a job working in a local bar, one with a lot of uni students as the main clientele.
Ended up getting trained up legally and joining the door staff as I was pretty good at dealing with trouble and not just through fighting, through doing various martial arts I'd actually become calmer and better able to talk issues through, rather than punch them.
Carried on like this for a few years, battled my ADHD and some other mental health issues. I'd had a lot of relationships but struggled to make them work. I had a lot of bad depressive stints, was diagnosed with PTSD of all things.
Also during this time I found I was a lot smarted than school made me believe, if I had interest in something I could focus on it and I could learn things pretty fast. I became reasonably good at carpentry and mechanics by this point, my van had been done up quite nicely by this point.
Anyway, one night I was walking back to my van and encountered three guys beating up another man. I stepped in and got him out of the, he refused hospital and asked me to take him back to his sister’s house after, which I did. Me and his sister talked for a while. After that, I kept seeing her everywhere after that, we'd always stop and chat and before I knew it a few months later we were dating. Everything was really good at first, it was more intense and passionate than anything I'd had before. We moved in and a few years later, we had our first son. (17 now).
Our relationship wasn't always that good, as well as my conditions she also had pretty severe, yet at this point un-diagnosed Bipolar, she was also later diagnosed with BPD too.
Things were good for the most part though and we had another son (now 14) and then things got a bit worse.
We both struggled more and ended up breaking up for a bit.
We got back together, things seemed better. She got diagnosed. We ended up having our daughter (now 10).
We shortly after had another boy (now 8).
We found ourselves falling out more and more, yet neither of us really wanted that to happen. It was always stupid things to. Nothing that really matters.
We had a couple of minor breakups and one thing that always got to me was the fact we were better co-parenting separately than we were parenting together.
We kept trying and trying convinced we could make it work, and it would be even better, but things always ended up the same.
About 5 years ago, we mutually agreed it was time to end things.
We still loved, and do love each other very much now. But in hindsight we were a terrible couple, and we were wrong for our kids’ sake to keep trying when we were much better and are much better parents to them separately.
As much as we still care for each other, we're both resigned to the fact it's had its time. A lines is drawn, that boat as sailed, etc. etc. etc.
I didn't deal with this as well as I thought I would, the first 3 months were OK, but then I fell into a depressive state and struggled to get out that funk. In a drunken blur, I actually tried to kill myself.
Another huge wake up call. After that I mentally blocked off "Romantic Emotions/feelings" I focused on my kids and myself.
Spent a lot of time at the gym and martial arts, learned more skills, computers, appliance repair, etc. Brought a new van and did that up real nice, etc.
2 years ago I brought a very small run down cottage, which I've been renovating.
I spend a lot of time just helping friend and family, and strangers in the community.
It helps with the loneliness I feel.
My Ex, had a few short failed relationships since, she's currently seeing a guy at the moment who seems nice.
Probably way longer than intended, but that's kinda my history, but there is another person in this that you need to know.
I'll called her Jane (not her real name).
Jane is a very nice, hardworking single mum. Who has in all honesty made some bad choices in men over the years.
Two boys (17, 7) and Two girls (11, 9). Three Dad's all deadbeats. All have nothing to do with the kids.
I even overheard one of them say before "I'm not a Dad anymore since we're not together now". (Took a lot of restraint not to crack his head on principle, hoping it might knock some decency into him).
We've all known Jane for years, since her my eldest boy and her eldest boy are best friends, have been for years. (Since about 6/7)
My daughter and her eldest daughter are also friendly with each other.
I've always gotten on with Jane very well, I get on with most pretty well in all honesty, but always just found her very easy to talk to/get along with.
My Ex, wasn't so keen on Jane. They got on OK, but I wouldn't call them friends. She often felt if I was there Jane was focused on me a little too much. Stood too close to me at school events, etc.
I always dismissed it thinking it was just that we got on quite well.
She also isn't the type of woman I'd normally be interested in. Being a larger chap I've preferred slightly larger women. Jane is quite short and petite, with some reasonable curves. Part of this was always a worry in the back of my mind they'd be too fragile.
If it wasn't for our kids being friends, I don't imagine they'd have had much to say to one another.
Anyway, that's how things were.
This is how they are now...
Last 5 years roughly as I mentioned, there hasn't been any "Romantic Interests" for me. I've pretty much just bottled all of that away and focused on keeping busy.
However, a couple weeks ago, I ran into Jane in the shop, she was looking pretty stressed out.
This was unusual for her, she usually handled things really well, and despite her probably needing it more than a lot of people, rarely ever asked for help. She just tried to manage all the time.
After discussing what was up, she explained she was driving out to pick up something from FB Marketplace, (early Xmas bargains), and her car dropped into limp mode and stalled completely. Then it would start up but really under powered.
She ended up driving it to an opening on the lane and leaving it and getting her brother to pick her up and bring her home until she could get her mechanic to recover it.
This was out on a country lane, middle of nowhere kind of thing.
She was stressed about getting it back, affording the repairs, etc.
I had the day off, I knew her car as well as I used to have one of the same model myself.
(It's a problem that often gets misdiagnosed as part of the Throttle system not functioning and the Fuel/Air mix is too low, but in fact it's often just the Air-Flow sensor that is wrong and it is giving bad readings which result in the fuel mix being wrong. Common fault on them.)
Her kids were at the grandparents for the day as she was supposed to be sorting all kinds of errands etc. without them. I had nothing planned so I told her we'd go take a look at it.
Get to her car, unplugged the MAF and sure enough the cars is back at full power after a rev or two.
Running it like this isn't very economic.
We jump back in my van find a spot to turn around and go off into town. I leave her in the high street to run some errands, I go to the trading estate and see a mate of mine who works for a parts supplier. (The MARKUP on car parts is crazy btw) Get a new MAF for about £35.
I went and picked her and we drove back to her car so I could fix it. She kept thanking me loads. I was just happy to help and have someone to spend the time with to be honest.
She just chilled in my van while I fitted the new part for her and tested it. All working, problem solved.
I then came to help her down out of the van - she's pretty short - she kind of fell into more of a hug/embrace type thing and then she surprised me as she kissed me.
I'm not sure what surprised me most, the fact she kissed me, or the fact I found myself kissing back.
It was like something woke up inside me, inside us both and before I know we ended up having (some pretty amazing) sex in the back of the van. It was really, unexpected, and to be honest really really hot.
We both had a little bit of awkwardness after as we redressed. I drove behind and made she got home fine. Waved goodbye and nothing was really said to one another.
The next few days I noticed she was posting a few more selfies of her looking good on Facebook, as well as tagging me in something, I can't really give details without risking being ID'd but it was kind of like an inside joke/comment that could be referencing sex in the back of a van. (But only if you knew about the sex in the van if that makes sense).
I tried to carry on as normal, got a text from her asking if I could help collect a desk for her son's room that evening.
I felt a bit awkward about the whole thing, it all felt quite strange to me at this point.
I agreed regardless and asked for the address, she just said to pick her up and she'll come with me.
I picked her up, she popped the address in the satnav and we drove there in awkward silence.
Got the desk, took it back, carried it in took it up stairs, help set it all up in place etc.
The whole time I'm trying to remain focused on the task at hand. She calls to me from the other room asking I can help with something else a moment.
I go in, to find her in her room, totally naked, and having already started if you know what I mean.
She tells me the kids are not due back for ages and basically throws herself at me.
I wanted to resist, as I'm not/have been keeping that nature of emotions/feelings at bay for years and was convinced the van was just a mistake. I couldn't seem to however, and ended up having a load of sex again.
My departure was a bit rushed afterwards as her kids were due back any minute, I also had to get ready for work.
Anyway, the next couple weeks were limited conversations, just a lot of likes on anything either of us put on social media.
As much as I didn't want to admit it, there was something there. I couldn't stop thinking about her.
I was determined I didn't want to go down that route though so I tried to ignore this and blank it out again.
Anyway, Thursday last week, schools re-opened and due to my work being in the evening mostly, I often pick my youngest two and take them for breakfast and then to school in the morning.
New system has us queuing up to get in, and as chance would have it, I got there just after Jane.
We kind of exchanged some awkward looks/small talk. Despite everything I'd consigned myself to, I couldn't stop myself being aroused just be being near her.
We said no more about it and went about out day, only to end up next to each other again at school pickup.
Without the kids there, while we waited, she told me she had a plumbing problem and wondered if I'd be able to take a look after school drop off tomorrow.
I agreed.
There was obviously no plumbing issue. This was another hook-up plain and simple.
Friday morning, I went back with her, we had sex again, then she got ready for work and I left.
Same Monday, Same Yesterday, except she has a few days off, and we actually just lay there and talked for ages.
I don't know if she did have any feelings for me before when my ex showed concerned, but it was becoming clear this wasn't just sex, for either of us. We decided today would be different, after the school run we went for a walk in the woods nearby, then we went and got something to eat together.
We went back to hers before the school run, this ended up being a mistake, as we ended up attempting a quickly, which we definitely succeeded in. But were almost caught by both her eldest son and mine (who was apparently going there first).
They were surprised to see us both, a) because we'd normally be on the school run by this point.
and b) the fact I was there at all.
I quickly followed on from the comment the other day, and said the dishwasher was leaking and she asked me to fix it knowing I was good at things like that.
They brought it.
That has led us both to a point though after much messages back and forth last night (We're both really tired today since we were still talking at about 3am).
This kinda brings me to main questions/questions.
We've admitted we do have feelings for each other. We do want to give it go and see if anything comes of this.
Were unsure how best to do this without:
a) Making things awkward for the children, especially our eldest boys. They've been best mates since they were 6/7 now for them to see me and Jane together, it could be weird/awkward for them, especially at 16/17.
b) My Ex. I don't want her to feel hurt by this. I don't want her BPD/Bipolar to become triggered and her jumping to conclusions that there was something going on the whole time. (This is the sort of thing likely to happen.)
That would jeopardise our current functioning relationship of friends and excellent co-parents.
c) Slightly selfish, I don't want to make another mistake that's going to cause my mental state to relapse.
I've resisted all others over the last 5 years, but for some reason I've not been able to resist her.
I don't know if that means anything or not.
Is it a mistake to even try this?

Really appreciate any feedback, advice, etc.

2020.09.07 03:54 Readerstein [Sweet Nola] - Chapter 12

Chapter 1
Nola sat at the dining table in the kitchen with her laptop in front. She scrolled through her college emails. She found out that her college results were going to be released next week. She was excited to see how high her results were going to be. She closed her email and switched back to a life simulation game she was playing. It was a sequel to an old computer game she had played in her youth. It brought back feelings of nostalgia.
She furiously clicked her mouse again, annoyed, ordering her avatar to go to work. Her character, which was created in her likeness, kept shaking her head. With a life of its own, her in-game self apparently had the audacity to refuse. It looked up above at the heavens and shook her fist.
"Ah! My character doesn't listen to me," she lamented to Allie.
"You have to do the recreation things," Allie said. He was sitting at the side of the table with colouring pencils spread in front of him. He was finishing off colouring a picture he did in the library's art club. "You can't force her to do things she doesn't want to do."
"I don't understand." She looked to him with pleading eyes.
Allie let out a moan. “Show me, son.” It was his new catchphrase. He had picked up some funny phrases over his time with Eleanor.
Nola shuffled over with her laptop.
"Your fun points are so low it's hitting double negative digits. Oh boy, you can die from unhappiness in the game." It was true, characters could enter into a spiralling depression that would eventually lead to a premature death.
"How high of a level are you in the occupation?"
"CEO."
"Whoa!" Allie's little eyebrows raised highly. "It takes twenty-four in-game years to grind to that level. Did you just skip out on building the social links?" The avatar's drooping expression said yes. All it cost was her happiness points. Allie didn't know if he had the gaming skills to reverse this. Lauren, the gaming god, might but she has moved out.
"Oh no, Allie. Look, her health bar is dropping by the second. She can't die now. I spent so much time manipulating and stepping on the other characters to max out my career points to become the CEO. The best part of the game is just about to start with all the cash I saved."
Allie got a idea. "What about your save files."
"I only use one save file," Nola said, "Just like real life, you only get one chance."
The avatar clutched its chest, the beginnings of the heart attack animation. Nola and Allie screamed hysterically. Then the doorbell rang.
"Silvie's here!" Allie face was exhilarated with excitement. "I'll get it!"
Nola opened the door with Allie piggyback riding.
"Silvie!"
"Allie!" Their second sister stood with open arms. The sunlight lit her long auburn hair. Below her eyes sat heavy eye bags due to jet lag. Nola and Allie had natural heavy eye bags unlike her.
Silvie hugged Allie through Nola.
Nola showed her the rooms with Allie on her back as they moved across the house.
"You can leave your luggage here. This is your room now. Our roommate just moved out. She's getting married soon. You have to tell me about the engagement with your boyfriend by the way."
Silvie threw down her luggage and threw her face onto the bed. She turned her head to Nola and smiled a sly smile. "Of course." Then she flipped over to face the ceiling, exhausted from her journey from France.
"Bigger than my old room at home. I hate to say it but I think this bungalow is better than our house. What do you think Allie? You like it?" Silvie asked.
"It's okay. I miss my stuff and my piano," he said while still piggybacking off Nola as she stood at the door of the bedroom.
"Ah yeah, he prefers it to the new digital one I got him. The location's really nice. We'll show you around outside later if you have the energy."
They went back to the sitting room where finally Nola dropped him off at the couch.
"I think it's time for some refreshments. Tea or coffee?"
"Orange juice."
"I'll have Tea."
Nola went into the kitchen. She took out some biscuits from the cupboard and then poured some orange juice into a glass. She could hear Allie's energetic chatter from the kitchen about the performance with Eleanor the night at the City Hall Theatre.
Nola came back into the room with the tray of refreshments. Allie laid exhausted on Silvie's lap. She gently stroked his silky, flaxen hair.
Nola looked at her with wide inquisitive eyes. “I’m dying to hear about your engagement. You sent me a picture of your boyfriend proposing to you in your Vienna holiday in front of a palace. How romantic!" she said dreamingly. "Tell me more."
"Alright, this is something I had to say in person." She took a deep breath with a hand holding her chest, "We sat there on the bench, I was sitting all clueless and disappointed. So the night before, he took me to the fanciest, most expensive restaurant in the city. We did everything a perfect date consists, we went through everything.
"We went to a café in a fancy area of Old Town. He told me he had to pre-book seats for the café. He had everything preplanned, literally planned it a year ago as you'll see with the restaurant he booked. Then we saw a romantic movie, it was in German and we couldn't understand a single thing. We went on this walk across this beautiful canal. I have more pictures I didn't send you. Here."
"Wow, it's beautiful," Nola said looking at her phone.
"Here's when we went to this open air museum. There were squirrels all over the little woods. Tim tried to catch one. It was hilarious. He's kind of like you."
Nola chuckled and she swiped Silvie's phone to see them standing beside a peacock. Silive's boyfriend was very tall and handsome. He had a neatly trimmed bread, always gelled up his hair and had a hyperactive look to him. He had a groovy demeanour and was the opposite to her sister whose resting facial expression was a cold, stern look. Opposite attracts, she thought.
"We went to Prater Park and timed it perfectly to see the sunset on the Ferris wheel. I was expecting it then but no. Instead, he told me that he booked a table at Amador. A three star Michelin restaurant. There's a waiting list for a year to get a table there. I was ecstatic about it and the food was fantastic. On level with my restaurant if I say so myself. So he snapped his fingers and called over a string quartet while we ate." Silvie laughed. "So at this moment, I'm fully expecting him to propose."
"Wait, how long have you guys been dating?"
"Three years. I was thinking it was about time as well. So the violinist was playing that violin piece, what was it? You know that really romantic one. Allie?"
Allie was half dozing on her lap, "Meditation from Thais by Massenet." Then he hummed the tune.
"Yes, that one! Then he got on his knees and everybody in the restaurant looked at him. Then he started shaking and I thought no, that absolute klutz. He ruffled through his pants' pockets then his shirt and jacket. He lost the engagement ring. The embarrassment! I covered my face in shame. I think the whole restaurant felt it. We all consecutively froze."
Nola cringed, they all cringed.
"We left the restaurant quietly. I don't even remember the rest." She sighed.
"What happened afterwards?"
She fanned out her fingers. On the ring finger sat a beautiful sapphire ring. "He proposed again the next day in front of Schönbrunn Palace." Nola and Silvie squealed like little girls and flailed their arms. Allie rolled his eyes.
"Bleh-" Allie stuck out his tongue. "Marriage."
"Con-gra-dua-lations!"
"I asked Tim where he found it and he said the restaurant called him when a waiter picked it up. I really doubt it. I saw him sneaking off in the morning. I bet he bought a new one."
Nola laughed. "What a klutz!"
"Look Allie, Is it pretty?"
"Too small. Give me a diamond this big." His hand formed a shape of a large bowl.
"It's not the size of the crystal that matters," she patted her handbag. "But the size of the wallet."
Nola slapped her on the shoulder, her sister had a cynical humour.
"It's the size of the heart, I meant," she corrected herself.
"When's the date?"
"Marriage date? Oh it's next year. By the time you graduated. You better have a boyfriend by that time. I wouldn't want my sister sitting all alone drinking on the happiest day of my life."
"Nola has me." Allie said in a tired, hazy voice.
"Exactly, Allie would be there beside me." She smiled looking at Allie.
The next day, they went around the neighbourhood and did the grocery shopping together. They came back from the supermarket with heavy bags of groceries. Nola did most of the heavy lifting while Silvie wheeled Allie in front. Silvie rolled up her sleeves. The ingredients they procured lay spread out on the countertop. Today she would show them what it means to be the head chef of a three star Michelin restaurant in the heart of Paris.
Nola sat looking at her phone on the kitchen stool. She scrolled though her contacts. She saw the updates from her friends and classmates. Her beta orbiters have flown back to their home countries, sharing happy pictures of themselves, some with girlfriends. The HDips who were graduating were asking for jobs on the group chat. Some were bragging about securing jobs and telling others of job vacancies around their area.
"Look."
"Look," Nola echoed her sister while rolling her eyes. Whenever her sister said look, it automatically invalidated whatever she was going to say. It was going so well.
"I found a doctor."
“In Belarus? Some mountain is it I guess? Where your mystic witch doctor resides,” Nola's eyes rolled back down having found a prepared retort. “Last time we went on that family holiday in Kazakhstan, we got off the bus and then you took us to an underpass where a homeless old Asian hag selling her shitty Chinese medicine, which was baskets of leaves and insect moults,” Nola said, eyes wide, nostrils flaring. “This witch, hag doctor was selling us, I don't know, eucalyptus leaves and cicada skins? That you need to boil it three hours and get Allie to chug a pint of it and he can walk again?!” She and her mother were the same. “Or that other time where that doctor felt his pulse and concluded that his iecur, whatever that is, was upside down and he prescribed some kind of goddamn concoction of celery and fennel stalks in a blender and forced him to drink a damn pint every morning. Remember how he ended in hospital with white boils all over his body. I haven't forgotten any of it.”
"This o-"
“He ended up in the hospital on an IV drip for over a fucking week! He still gets those boils showing up on his skin sometimes!” Nola had trouble containing her emotions. She gazed at her sister in anger. Her sister's back was turned preparing some dish. That's why he stays with me and not you, she thought.
"Anyway, didn't you say you wanted to invite your San Franciscan friend over?" Silvie changed the subject.
They were so frivolous, Nola thought, without any care or thought or responsibility. She could hear Allie's soothing piano playing in the other room and it calmed her down a little.
"I heard a lot about this mysterious person. You've got me interested with all the things you told me. Is it another Eleanor-like person?"
She sat staring blankly at her phone with another anxiety now. She decided to call him. He picked it up within a few seconds.
"Hi."
"Hey."
She gave him the details and he said he'll come over right away.
"Is your San Franciscan friend a boy or a girl?" Silvie looked at her with great interest over the kitchen counter. Nola was smiling now.
"You'll see," Nola said unable to hold a grin.
Within ten minutes, the doorbell rang.
"That was fast! Does he live close?"
"Not really."
"What does he do for a living?"
"He cycles."
"I'll go get the door. Go get dressed. I'm running a fancy diner here, not McDonald's."
"How dare you. Eating McDonald's hamburgers saved his bank account in the US."
Silvie ignored her, not even going for a retort and went to open the front door. She was expecting her friend to be some sort of a hobo. The door swung open and there stood a handsome, upstanding gentleman, Ben the former stalker of Nola. He had one hand ruffling his golden brown hair.
Wow, he's good looking. "Hello!" Silvie's eyes glittered, scanning him top to bottom and bottom to top. She extended her hand out to him. "I'm Silvie."
"Hi, Ben. Nice to meet you." the ruffled good looking youth replied. Nola had texted him to beware of her sister whatever that meant. He had predicted that she would shake his hand so he had his cycling gloves in the large pockets of his khaki cargo pants already. He had anticipated well to not appear awkward. He looked at her hand only to realise his plans were foiled. She was wearing oven mittens yet she expected him to shake it.
He let out a sigh and shook her oven mittened hands. Silvie was mature looking compared to her sister. Her eyes carried a stern and hard expression. They were small while Nola's eyes were large. They looked like they would be the opposite of each other, he thought. He wondered what she was like as he grasped her oven mittened hands.
Ben was thinking this must be some kind of character test. Perhaps with this, she's determined I'm submissive and meek or that I'm an airhead. Ben was thinking of the ongoing psychological warfare while Silvie was simply taken aback by his handsome, youthful looks. She eyed him, finally finding out what her sister's type was.
“I heard so much about the trip but she wouldn't tell me much of her mysterious travel partner.”
So she didn't tell her anything. Maybe she was embarrassed of him.
Silvie leaned uncomfortably close, her chin above his shoulder. "Did you guys bang?"
In a silence that felt like an eternity, Ben thought back to the already answered question that had forcefully persisted in his mind since the trip. He had deduced that it was unlikely that anything happened at the motel after he blacked out drunk following the strip club incident. For one thing, Nola wasn't drunk since she was able to bring him to a motel. If they were both drunk with animal instinct taking over, it would have been a different story. But one of them was not.
"I'm joking," she finally said and patted him on the backside. He was sure that he had fallen victim to her character valuation. She stood back at a distance. "Come in, come in."
Silvie led the way to the kitchen. He had been here a few times but today the kitchen was different. It was very different, like a high class restaurant. The curtains were closed and the room was lit with candles. The dining table itself was covered with a thick, satin, white table cloth. In the middle was a large wrought iron candle holder decorated with floral scented candles.
"Wow."
"Take a seat. Make yourself at home. Nola would be here in a second."
"I'll help out with setting the ehm... table."
"Oh no no, I can't have the guest doing the serving. Take a seat." She walked around the kitchen counter and twisted a knob on the oven. She was also a guest but Ben didn't say it. "Nola tells me you're quite the gourmet."
Ben and Silvie were exchanging deep culinary knowledge on food when Nola entered the room pushing Allie in front. Suddenly the air was silent. She had caught the male gaze. His gaze.
She stopped and bent slightly to fix Allie's collar. She wore a black, low cut dress patterned with large diamond patterns that gleamed from the candle light. In her cold shoulder dress, he could see her powerful shoulders bulged out with the fridge-like body of hers. She brushed back her unnaturally smooth blonde hair as she got up. She was beautiful in a strong menacing way
"Hi," Ben couldn't help but smile.
“Hi Ben,” Allie replied energetically. Noticing he was wearing a t-shirt, he said, “You need to wear a shirt to eat here.” Allie didn’t look much different. He wore slacks and a white dress shirt with a bow tie, the same clothes he wore to his concert at the City Hall Theatre.
“Hmm… I’ll forgive you this time if Nola forgives you.”
“Sorry, my mistake actually,” Nola looked up to him with the usual intensity in her eyes. “I forgot to tell you.” She laughed. She was her usual self but with make-up.
She lifted Allie out of his wheelchair and placed him at the seat at the top of the table. Nola took the seat opposite to Ben.
“My sister works as a head chef in Paris so we have to dress fancy to meet her standards. The restaurant itself is called-” Nola spoke up, “-La Aubergine.”
"It's L'Arpège, my god Nonna."
"Nonna is what they sometimes call me. Old Russian pronunciation. Parents were such dunces when they got here and wrote Nola instead," she explained.
"That's a big change," Ben said. He had accurately assumed that was the case before.
"You'll get used to anything. Especially when you're young." She leaned close to Ben, "Allie and I visited her in Paris once. Can you believe they wouldn't let a child under fifteen in the restaurant? French are such snobs," she whispered the last part so her sister didn't overhear at the kitchen counter. "She's the head chef of the restaurant now after the old guy got carpal tunnel syndrome from his gaming addiction. She's the best chef ever." she said the last part loudly so her sister would hear. "Ah, Allie. Tell Ben about Disneyland."
They chatted cheerfully over the appetizers of bread and olives about their Parisian holiday. It reminded Ben that he still needed to give Nola the holiday photos.
"-And they shot flames out of the castle with the fireworks, you could feel the heat from way over there. The fireworks were so loud. Eleanor covered my ears. She said she didn't me to damage them."
"The first dish has arrived."
"It smells so go-" Before Nola finished her sentence she looked down at the placed in front of her.
"This dish is called La Crème de chou de Bruxelles. You'll be surprised to know that all of the dishes from the three star Michelin restaurants are very simple. The secret is fresh ingredients." She looped around the dining table back to the kitchen to prepare the next set of dishes.
The dish was served in a plate that resembled an artistic dog bowl. A dollop of white creamy cream coloured cream dotted around the plate and in the centre of the plate, was a single Brussels sprout.
Ben, Allie and Nola traded confused glances with each other. They looked back at the plate. It was an aged looking Brussels sprout, meticulously placed in the most eye pleasing angle as possible. There was even a leaf growing out the top of the stud.
"Must be one of my sister's experimental dishes and we're her lab mice."
"I mean it looks... artistic to say the least. Subversive in fact."
"True, true," Allie added.
They forked the Brussels sprout, swirled it around the sauce and put it in their mouths.
"Wow! This is the best Brussels sprout I've ever eaten in my life!" Allie exclaimed.
"Incredible! The Brussels sprout's partially hallowed out. There's a broth injected into the centre. It's like heroin juice spurting out when you bite into it."
"It's good," Nola said with slight hesitation. The heavy drinking has not been kind to her taste buds. The full potential escaped her tongue.
The dishes piled on. Each one topping the next with the last meal containing illegal substance, black caviar. The meal finally finished four hours later with Allie dozing off halfway through eating.
Silvie left the kitchen with shaking legs after doing the work of a seven course meal without her line of chefs. Before she left the room, she gave Ben a pat on the back and they exchanged a glance of mutual understanding, as fellow gourmets. The producer and the consumer; the omega and alpha, and then wobbled to the sitting room to collapse face first into the couch.
They sat alone by themselves with a sleeping child beside them.
“Let me make you something too.” Nola got up and walked over to the kitchen table, hips swaying. She whipped out a bottle of white rum, pre-squeeze lime juice and a small bottle of simple syrup and poured them into a cocktail shaker. She shook it in a tango dance trying to draw a laugh from Ben and he did. She poured it into a martini glass and placed it gingerly in front of him.
"It's a daiquiri, it's really nice. Try it."
Ben tipped the drink to his lips.
"How is it?"
"It's great." Calms the nerves, is what he wanted to say. He had no more doubts with Nola, he was in love with her.
He looked at Allie, dozing on his chair. He was going to ask her out. If anything interrupted him, then so be it.
They sat staring at each other, locked in a mesmerised glance. The candles flickering.
In the end, Ben couldn't bring himself to ask the question he wanted to ask the most. He had never been in a relationship, never started a relationship with anybody, not even a friendship before he had met her.
"Looks like Allie's tired," she said, her eyes flicked over to the sleeping child.
"Yeah, I'm going to leave. It's late." He looked away as well, eyes dejected. "I'll come another day to give you the photos and videos."
"Come tomorrow. We'lI show it to Silvie and Allie together."
Nola led him to the door. He stepped outside and stood in the cold. A full moon stood above him, he turned around. Nola observed him, waiting; waiting for something, anything.
"I think you're beautiful by the way. Will you go out with me?" he said nonchalantly. He had pondered it enough over the weeks and was done with it, with getting nowhere. The scene called for it, he convinced himself.
After a long pause with another eternity passing under the moonlight.
"I can't," she said, "I'm in love with Allie."
"Huh?!" Emptiness washed over Ben. He was not expecting incestuous love if that was what she meant.
"But maybe next year," she paused mischievously, "I might bring you to the wedding."
"HUH?!"

AFTERWORD FROM THE AUTHOR
To any readers that lingered to the very end, thx for sticking around and I hope you enjoyed my little novel. I've finished fixing some typos, grammar and badly phrased sentences that I hope didn't annoy you too much when you were reading it. If you like my writing, you can get the definitive edition, a physical copy (It's beautiful btw) on Amazon at amzn.com/B08BDZ2K4V and also on the amazing Amazon stores of you country.
They say that everybody has one novel in them. I can say for myself that I had a manga as well. This is my 2nd work, the first being a manga called 'Imitation World of Synth' and then this novel. I am an author without much imagination and so my stories must draw a lot from my experiences. I will say that nothing in this book is made up but just a twisted account of reality and the people I've met.
Having finished it now, there was a morbid thought that I have ran out of inspiration. In a recent rereading of a certain novel (I leave it to the well-read reader to figure out its origin), there was a quote that spoke my mind. A thought that I had for the longest time since I wrote my first story.
"There must be thousands, and perhaps millions of people like me. People accustomed to death, who feel that the only part of their lives that really mattered is over."
And so there it is with all my worthwhile experiences written. Maybe I can keep pumping out the same types of stories over and over again like a washed-out genre writer. I feel like my strengths lay in the crude humour that you have read throughout the story. The next one, I suppose, will have to be of imagination more purer.
My main project now is to adapt, at least the 1st chapter, of Sweet Nola into manga form. I may possibly be the first writer to adapt their own work into a manga. Updates, unfortunately, will be infrequent but I hope that I'll definitely release a couple of pages every week. My excuse being that drawing is infinity more laborious and slower than writing.
I don't exactly have an approach on the 'vision' of the manga form of Sweet Nola. Novels and manga are different mediums and so my rough idea, if it can even be called that, is not a direct translation from blocks of text into manga strips, but to focus on conveying the visual aspects that manga readers appreciate more. In a way, it also rewards the reader more as a second reading where I don't do a direct translation with all its exposition and be minimalistic in drawing scenes. The manga will probably be rough and dirty so I can output it rapidly.
If you are interested in being a proof reader or editor or collaborator on the manga ver., shoot me a pm and I'll respond as fast as I see your message. If you hated my story, then now is the chance to refine it in a collaborative effort.
The first few pages of Sweet Nola manga can be found at: https://globalcomix.com/c/sweet-nola
Follow me on Twitter for updates as I'll twit whenever I get something uploaded: https://twitter.com/chikinstudio
It's easy to write swiftly but for a manga, it took me 2 days to draw 6 pages that only covered the first two pages of the story. We'll see how it goes...
