Decades, generations, and youth.
2019.12.28 18:10 AlwaysAdam569Decades, generations, and youth.
After looking at some posts, I thought that this would be an interesting idea for a post. It's about the decades and who spent their youth in them. I'll show you some decades, what birth years spent the majority of their youth in them, some notable celebrities who spent their youth in said decade, and what generation the decade and it's youth belongs to.
1980s: 60's and Early 70's babies
Late Baby Boomers spent some youth in the 80s, but the vast majority of the 80s was dominated by Early and even Core X, who would've spent their youth in the mid-late 80s. They were the kids who saw Footloose in theaters and bought the album of it. They saw Star Wars for the first time back in 1977, and would go on to grow up in the era of ridiculous fashion trends. They also grew up in a time where America was dealing with the Soviets. Notable celebrities who spent their youth in the 80s include Keanu Reeves, Gordon Ramsay, Nicolas Cage, Adam Sandler, Michelle Obama, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dog, and Eminem.
1990s: 70's and Early 80's babies
The youth of the 90s was mostly Gen X, with a bit of Early Y in there. The youth of the 90s had grudge and rock and amazing movies. They saw the impeachment of Bill Clinton, and were probably freaked out over Y2K and if the computers would explode. Other notable events for them were the launch of Windows 95, the Columbine massacre, and the deaths of Kurt Cobain and 2 Pac. Notch, Pink, Flo Rida, Jimmy Fallon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Casey Neistat, Nicki Minaj, Lil' Wayne, Future, Carrie Underwood, James Rolfe (AVGN, notable Gen X YouTube star), Doug Walker (Nostalgia Critic), and Keemstar all spent most of their youth in this decade.
2000s: 80's and Early 90's babies
The heyday of Gen X's youth is pushed aside for the heyday of Millennials. They had to witness the horrible events that occurred on 9/11, and made up most of the sweaty Xbox Live adults on MW2 (the 8-year-old kids were probably Late Y or even Early Z). Y2K was celebrated, and the computers don't explode (thankfully). Rock was a dominant force in the music industry for a majority of the decade, until the late 2000s when electopop started to take over and rock declined. Fashion was centered around the "emo" style, as was music. The recession hits in 2008, causing many businesses to close down and people to lose jobs. Online multiplayer started to emerge in the mid-2000s and blew up when CoD4 launched in 2007. Social media begins to rise as sites that would define the 2010s like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook are founded, while 2009's Avatar becomes the highest grossing movie ever. The WMD scare and Iraq war, Michael Jackson's death, the launch of the iPhone, and the transition of 2D to 3D animation are more notable 2000s events. Notable examples of celebrities who spent their youth in this decade are PewDiePie (aka good ol' Felix Kjellberg), Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, LeBron James, Ashley Tisdale, Hilary Duff, Bruno Mars, Shane Dawson, Ssundee, PopularMMOs, Ninja, DanTDM, Ed Sheeran, Toby Williams, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, Marshmello, Demi Lovato, KSI, Meghan Trainor, and Ariana Grande.
2010's: 90's and Early 2000's babies
It's still too hard to determine what generation is the 2010's youth. While youth has been stated to begin as young as 9 years old, and some say it can be as old as age 30, it's kinda confusing. With that being said, however, I would split the 2010s into two categories: the Early 2010s are Late Y, the Mid 2010s are a mix, and the Late 2010s are Early Z. This decade's youth was around 1994-2003 or so, which means that people associated with the Early 2010s, like Justin Bieber, would be Early 2010s youth, and those associated with the Late 2010s, like JoJo Siwa, would be a part of the Late 2010s youth. This decade was filled with political turmoil, ridiculous trends, creepy YouTube Kids channels that manipulated 3-8 year olds, the list goes on. The youth of this decade would be huge influencers for sites like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Even KIDS would become famous, as seen with MattyB and Ryan's Toy Review. Instead of watching cable television, kids would just use their iPads and Netflix to watch television. Shootings in general became a serious problem with the Orlando nightclub shooting in 2016, the Las Vegas shooting in 2017, and the Parkland shooting in 2018. Nobody could forget the turmoil of politics this decade, either. The 2016 election, ISIS, North Korea, liberation of Hong Kong, Trump's impeachment, it's crazy. In terms of culture, music turned from Electopop in the early 2010s to trap and EDM in the mid-late 2010s. The MCU blew up to huge fame, and Avengers Endgame became the highest grossing movie of all time, beating Avatar which held the record for nearly a decade. Video gaming became more scummy as EA, Activision and Bethesda show how they're awful game publishers, while indies start to gain traction, to the point where many say that indies are the future of gaming. Notable names who are a part of this decade's youth include Harry Styles, Logan Paul, RiceGum, Zendaya, Dove Cameron, Justin Bieber, Kylie Jenner, Jake Paul, Bella Thorne, Xxxtentacion (RIP), Juice WRLD (RIP), Shawn Mendes, Peyton List, Cameron Boyce (RIP), Sabrina Carpenter, Lil Pump, Jace Norman, Billie Eilish, Jacob Sartorius, Loren Gray, Maddie Ziegler, MattyB, Cash Baker, JoJo Siwa, and Johnny Orlando.
2020's: 2000s and Early 2010s babies
Clearly Gen Z. While some may argue that the Early 2010s babies are not Gen Z, one thing I do know is that the 2020s will clearly be the decade of Gen Z. Yes, I know. Millennials will still be relevant. However, they probably won't be as popular as the 2000s babies that'll be the youth of the 2020s. EvanTubeHD, Ryan's Toy Review (notable 2010s baby), Mackenzie Ziegler, Ruby Rube, Lauren Orlando, Hayden Sumerall, RonaldOMG, KarinaOMG, EthanGamerTV, Annie Rose, Txunamy, and North West are some celebrities who I see an interesting future when they're in their 20s.
2030's: 2010s and Early 2020s babies
Why am I including this? Well there are already some kids who I see could be potential 2030s, or even very late 2020s stars. Tydus Talbott, Solage Ortiz, Jackson Mecham, Halston Blake Fisher, Indie Gardner (happy 5th birthday), and DJ Prince are all going to be a part of the main youth of the 2030s. Some of them already ARE famous before they even really get to youth age. While I don't know what the 2030s will be like, one things for sure, it's definitely the decade of Gen Alpha. Most of Gen Z will be either in their 40s or 30s by then and will be the parents of the pop stars and sitcom actors/actresses.
2019.07.23 07:10 Sylvia28Jonas Brothers hate in the late 2000s was disturbing.
There were a number of reasons why I found this to be disturbing, and why I want to talk about it. First of all, the Jonases were homeschooled. As someone who was homeschooled myself, I normally hate it when people refer to kids in the entertainment industry as being homeschooled, because almost none of them actually are--kids in the entertainment industry usually get private tutoring, which is completely different from being homeschooled, and it's also common for them to attend regular schools when they're not on the job--but the Jonases actually do seem to have been legit homeschooled. That means they may well have been rather sheltered during their adolescence. None of the Jonases would have ever been bullied in middle school or high school, because they didn't go to middle school or high school. Because they were never exposed to the types of antagonistic behaviors that go on in public schools, they probably developed gentler (and dare I say it, more Disney-fied) personalities than normal teenage boys. They probably had a great deal more emotional security and stability than other kids their age, but they probably also had no idea how critical other people could be. They probably never learned how to argue a point or how to clearly defend and explain themselves, because those skills wouldn't have been necessary in their original environment. Prior to becoming famous, they would not have been accustomed to having a normal amount of privacy; they were probably actually accustomed to having a great deal more privacy than normal people, because they didn't endure the scrutiny of their peers on a daily basis in school. When they first started wearing their purity rings, they wouldn't have been able to run that decision through the filter of "what will the kids at school think of this", because they didn't have that filter on their brains. When they first started writing music together, they would not have been worried about the possibility that their music might be lame or stupid, because they were never taught to condemn anything as being lame or stupid (and were thus at an extremely high risk for doing things that other people would consider lame or stupid). They simply would not have had the self-awareness that comes from going to school and getting feedback from your peers every single day. For comparison, consider Taylor Swift, who would have been starting her career around the same time: Taylor once said that at her high school, you could be judged for what handbag you carried. While going to school and being judged for her handbag wouldn't have directly taught Taylor anything about music, it probably did teach her that if you want people to tolerate you, let alone like you, you have to meet very strict standards and pay attention to details that may not have any obvious importance. The Jonases probably had a much more simplistic understanding of life and relationships; they probably thought that if they were nice to other people, other people would be nice to them. In terms of technical knowledge and skill, they could have had the same level of musical talent as Taylor Swift, or heck, they could have been more talented than she was in some ways, but Taylor always had a huge advantage over them, because she would have had so much more awareness of the standards you need to meet to please critical people. When the Jonas Brothers set to work on their very first album, it probably never occurred to them that they might be doing anything wrong, or that in a few years' time, millions of complete strangers would hate them or be calling them the worst band in the world, or that they were going to get more hate for what they were doing than Michael Vick got for torturing dogs. They probably thought the worst that could happen if nobody liked their music was that nobody would buy it. In addition to rendering them very socially naive, homeschooling would have affected their relationship with one another. If they had been in public school, they would have all gone their separate ways during the day, and come back together at the end of the day all in different moods and having had different experiences, but instead, they were probably together almost all day every day. They probably identified with one another much more strongly than a normal group of brothers. When they were writing music together, they were probably much less inclined than normal people to criticize each other or reject each other's ideas. This made them very vulnerable, because it meant that, on a certain level, any criticism aimed at their music was also an attack on their relationship. If Nick Jonas wrote a song and Kevin and Joe agreed to play it, and then you made fun of it, you weren't just making fun of Nick for writing a song you considered stupid, you would also have been making fun of Kevin and Joe for failing to recognize the stupidity of their brother's music. You would have been legit making fun of these guys because of they valued and respected each other's work, and equating their loyalty to each other with lack of musical talent. That's terrible. So with regards to creating objectively good music, the Jonas Brothers would have been doubly handicapped by social naivete and blind loyalty to each other. They were the last people who should have been writing their own music. In some ways they would have been better off being a shamelessly manufactured boy band in the vein of NSync, but at that time, boy bands were out of style, there was an actual demand for pop artists who wrote their own music, and their record label probably wanted them to be fairly autonomous. They could do a few cover songs or have the occasional co-write from their producer or one of their backing musicians, but basically the bulk of their material needed to be music they actually wrote themselves; they couldn't have an extensive team of co-writers who were hired for the specific purpose of helping them write music (as would be par for the course if they were entering the music industry today). Music critics and other people in the media certainly knew this, and for that exact reason I think they took a great deal of sadistic pleasure in verbally tearing the Jonas Brothers' self-written music to pieces, then being kinder to artists who were probably not one iota more talented than the Jonas Brothers, but who were able to create better music by virtue of having other people write it for them. By the time the Jonas Brothers were finishing at Disney, it was commonplace for the media to contrast them unfavorably with artists who didn't write their own music (Justin Bieber, Big Time Rush, etc.), without taking into account that they had to write their own music. Disney stars who didn't write their own music, such as Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez, were better tolerated by the public, and were able to transition more easily into adult careers, even though they personally did a lot less work to achieve their success than the Jonas Brothers had to do. Since then, the music industry has been dominated by artists who don't write their own music. Disney has never again attempted promoting any groups who write their own music. I don't think the Jonases themselves write their own music anymore (or at least since leaving Disney, none of them has released anything that sounds self-written, and in that respect I think their adult careers have actually been more manufactured than were their Disney careers). One of the biggest groups of this decade has been One Direction. One Direction has never gotten anywhere near as much hate as the Jonas Brothers, and why not? Well, part of it is looks (or lack thereof): you could say the guys in One Direction were only famous for their looks, and certainly some people have said that, but it's difficult to make the accusations stick, because they weren't actually all that good-looking. But I think the other part is that One Direction was not in any way vulnerable. They didn't write their own music; they always had at least one co-writer per track (and their solo careers have all been the same way). That constant presence of at least one co-writer is significant, because it means the guys never had anything that was truly theirs exposed to the public. If they weren't actually very good songwriters, they always had someone else to improve on their work and ensure that they came out with good music anyway (or share in the blame if the music still wasn't very good). You can make fun of One Direction's music if you want, but the insult isn't as personal as it would have been with the Jonas Brothers, since they didn't actually write it. They also weren't brothers and their relationship probably had no effect on their songwriting process, so an insult to their music isn't an attack on their family relationships. None of the guys in One Direction was homeschooled, so they were probably a lot less socially naive than the Jonases. One Direction was formed in the most public way possible, on an episode of The X Factor, and from the outset they existed to meet the standards of the public. The Jonas Brothers formed in the most private way possible, as a group of homeschooled kids entertaining themselves in their basement, and they would have been ill-prepared to meet the standards of the public. If you're a sadist, attacking One Direction would not bring you the same satisfaction as attacking the Jonas Brothers, because One Direction was simply not vulnerable. And that is why One Direction's career was an unbroken string of success, and why all of them have been fairly successful as individuals: not because they possess talent, but because they lack vulnerability. By contrast, the Jonas Brothers were mercilessly attacked by the media, not because they were less talented than other pop stars, but because they were more vulnerable. Now, the Jonas Brothers weren't just attacked for their music. Joe specifically was given a lot of grief for his failed romantic relationships. Joe has a very empathic quality about him, and I think he tended to attract narcissistic girls. That would have put him in danger, because one does not simply break up with a narcissist. Narcissists can turn quite nasty if you try to leave, and they are often quite masterful at convincing others that they are the real victim. After Joe broke up with Taylor Swift, she behaved exactly the way you would expect from a narcissist. If you watch the video of her on the Ellen DeGeneres show claiming that Joe broke up with her in a 25-second phone call, she had this really obvious "duping delight" smile on her face. She looked like she was lying, and she wasn't even a very good liar. I don't see how anyone could have watched this without wondering what we weren't being told about this supposed 25-second phone call, but tweens took her very seriously, and Joe was vilified far and wide. This was a terrible thing to do to him, because it set up a situation where he couldn't leave a relationship that wasn't working out for him without being harassed, even if the girl in question was a manipulative narcissist. If Taylor were a man who physically abused exes to punish them for leaving, no one would think that was okay, but because she is a woman who is "only" emotionally abusive, an alarming number of people actually support her. I think all of this stuff must have taken a toll on Joe, because by late 2009, he was showing signs of being very severely distressed. His once legendary good looks deteriorated, and he started to look as if he had been dragged through hell backwards. His usual facial expression at this time made him look as if he were in excruciating pain. He appeared to lose weight, and has remained rather thin and gaunt ever since. He often went out in public with his hair looking uncombed and his face unshaven. He started keeping his hair shorter, which I found interesting, because he must know his hair is attractive, so why would he want to get rid of it? I think it's possible he was deliberately sabotaging his own good looks by failing to take care of himself and by getting rid of his hair, to put his defenses up and make himself a less appealing target for abusive people. Every aspect of his body language suggested someone who felt very invaded upon. In interviews he seemed abnormally withdrawn, and in performances he appeared to suddenly develop stage fright. Sometimes he would joke around, but it seemed forced and awkward, as if he felt obligated to act a certain way to meet others' expectations. My impression was that he must have known what people were saying about him and his family, and been very traumatized by it, but was expected to keep performing as if nothing was wrong. The media ignored his obvious trauma and continued to harass him, presumably because the idea of Joe Jonas being traumatized didn't fit the narrative of Joe Jonas the psychopathic jerk who deliberately uses his looks to gain success and who breaks girls' hearts for fun. At the time, I wondered how Joe would cope over the long term. My thought was that if the public continued to verbally abuse him and he was unable to defend himself, he might adapt by developing a Stockholm syndrome-like response, distancing himself from or even turning on his family, and attempting to re-invent himself in the image of whatever he thought his abusers wanted him to be. In a situation like that, his family would probably have no idea what was wrong with him. Kevin and Nick never displayed any significant signs of distress (they must be mentally as tough as nails), so they might not be able to appropriately empathize with their brother. In 20h, Joe dated and then broke up with Demi Lovato. According to tweens on the Internet, the only possible explanation for Joe breaking up with not one but two girls was that he must breaking their hearts for fun. Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato were universally assumed to be innocent victims, and to this day they seem to have more supporters than he does. If you ask me, there is a considerable amount of evidence that Taylor Swift is a manipulative narcissist, that Demi Lovato is a straight-up psychopath, and that Joe Jonas is actually very vulnerable and attracts predators of all kinds like sharks to fresh blood, but this has never been a common view. Joe appeared to hit an all-time emotional low during the Camp Rock 2 tour, which was a disaster. At that time, for Disney to put the Jonas Brothers on tour again essentially amounted to holding them up so the public could throw darts at them. Before the tour was over, Demi Lovato was kicked out for punching one of her backup dancers, then checked into a treatment center for eating disorders. In the aftermath of this incident, there was an outpouring of sympathy for Demi (who was assumed to be an innocent victim), and an outpouring of hatred for Joe, the assumption being that it was all his fault for breaking up with Demi. Such was the irrational hatred for Joe Jonas at this time: if his ex-girlfriend attacked someone, this was considered proof that that he could not possibly have had good reason for breaking up with her, and that she was an innocent victim. If anything went wrong within a twenty-foot radius of him, it was assumed to be his fault. Joe already appeared to be very stressed, but the media would not let up on him. It was like that part in Lord of the Flies where everyone irrationally decides Simon is a monster and beats him to death, even after it should have become obvious they were making a mistake. Alex Welch, the girl who was punched, came forward and said the incident was over some private pictures that had leaked onto the Internet, for which Demi believed Alex was responsible, but the media talked over her version of events and ignored her. It was truly appalling how Demi convinced the media to take her side in this situation. Throughout the Camp Rock 2 tour she appeared secure and confident while Joe looked like death warmed over; I don't see how anyone could believe she was the vulnerable one in this relationship. She basked in sympathy and attention from the public, while allowing her already traumatized ex-boyfriend to take the blame for a situation that was entirely her fault. And while I acknowledge that she didn't directly blame Joe (in interviews, she chose instead to focus on her assortment of supposed personal problems), the lyrics to her song "Skyscraper" seem to encourage the narrative that he should be the scapegoat, and she certainly did not take responsibility for her own actions. In 2011, Joe released a solo album, and his behavior while promoting the album convinced me that he had indeed developed Stockholm syndrome. He went on tour with Britney Spears, and at one point during the tour, she gave him a lap dance, a video of which circulated on the Internet. During this lap dance, Joe looked tense and uncomfortable, but kept a very fake-looking smile pasted on his face the entire time. It was a super awkward to watch, but I could see a certain logic to his behavior. Prior to this point, millions of people had converged on him and subjected him to what basically amounted to psychological torture for wearing a purity ring. If he adapted by trying to conform to the standards of his abusers, he would probably want to adopt a sexually loose image, even if that meant subjecting himself to, and pretending to like, things that actually made him uncomfortable. In late 2013, things got weirder in the world of former Disney stars. Around this time, I heard an interview on my local pop radio station with Demi Lovato, who was apparently releasing a memoir or something. She made all kinds of absurd claims: that she had once been so severely addicted to cocaine that she was snorting it once an hour, that she had once used cocaine on an airplane, etc. (When the radio announcer conducting the interview asked how she sneaked cocaine past airport security, there was a long silence, and then she said she just did.) As I listened to her, I found myself thinking "This girl is lying through her teeth." Demi went to a treatment center for eating disorders, not drug rehab, after she left the Camp Rock 2 tour. Alex Welch, the girl who was punched, never mentioned anything about drugs when she told her side of the story in 2010. If you watch videos of Demi in 2010 when all this drug use should have been going on, she was behaving fairly normally. She may have dabbled in drugs, but there's no way she ever had an addiction as bad as what she claimed in this interview. I admit I haven't read her memoir, but I strongly suspect it's a steamy pile. Not long after this, in 2014, I saw an interview with Joe Jonas on the Internet in which he said some things that I found questionable. I found him more believable than Demi Lovato--he didn't claim to have ever sneaked cocaine onto a commercial airliner or anything like that--but something about the interview still felt off. At times, he was weirdly vague. For instance, he described the first time he used marijuana by saying "It was okay", which isn't a description at all. (My guess is that he didn't actually have a good experience with it, but didn't want to admit he didn't have a good experience with it.) He also claimed that Disney stars are puppets who inevitably just have to rebel, which makes no sense whatsoever. If you look at what most Disney stars did while still working for Disney, in official products that were promoted on Disney's dollar, there's no way Disney was that controlling. When Miley released her first "edgy" music video, Can't Be Tamed, no one was speculating that this was a way for her to rebel against Disney, because she still worked for Disney at the time. The Jonas Brothers themselves developed an edgier image while working for Disney than what they originally had, and Disney certainly allowed that (if they didn't actively require it). In this interview, Joe only provided one specific example of how Disney treated him and his brothers, and it was a story about how the people at Disney once assured them they were doing a good job. The story felt totally non sequitur with the rest of the interview, and didn't really support the idea that 2000s Disney stars were mere puppets, or that Disney is even a particularly bad company to work for. This whole interview was just really weird. Knowing the things Demi Lovato started saying around this time, and putting two and two together, my impression was that she was probably behind this somehow. Basically, if she's going to go around telling tall tales about her supposed drug addiction and myriad other personal problems, she needs two things. First, she needs a scapegoat, so that people will perceive her as a victim and sympathize with her. Disney is an easy scapegoat: for the past decade it's been cool to hate Disney, so any version of events that involves Disney stars being mere puppets, and Disney somehow being responsible for the personal problems of its former stars, is likely to be popular with the public, because this was what a lot of people had already decided to believe. Demi would have also needed for the stories of other former Disney stars to align with her own, and my impression is that she must have somehow recruited them to lie for her. And what choice would they have? If she's the type of person who attacks people if they don't do what she wants (as the incident on the Camp Rock 2 tour would seem to suggest), there's no telling what she would do to anyone who wasn't willing to go along with her, and sadly, she has a lot of clout with the media. She may well have a lot of power to manipulate people behind the scenes, and the media has been enabling this type of behavior ever since the Camp Rock 2 tour. Because she was an ex-girlfriend of Joe Jonas's, the media decided she should be allowed to pretty much get away with murder. (Okay, so I admit she hasn't actually gotten away with murder, but I'm seriously a little worried that she could.) Demi Lovato started doing this about five years ago now. At this point, I go out of my way to avoid anything related to former Disney stars, because I think most of what they've said in recent years is bull, but from what I've heard, Demi Lovato is still telling these kinds of tall tales, and she has a fairly large fan base who actually take her seriously. I think the Jonas Brothers have recently released their own memoir. I haven't read that, either, but I'm not sure I trust them. Although I believe they are much better-intentioned people than Demi Lovato, if they have connections to her, they may be obligated to say certain things or promote certain narratives to avoid conflict with her. And all of this crap was enabled by the media's collective decision to sympathize with her after the Camp Rock 2 tour.

So first off the title is a reference to Lady Gaga's Paparazzi video, and if you haven't seen that before you should do so before you read this (not because they're related; they aren't, but because it's iconic and you're missing out). I know many of us Lana stans/fans were disheartened to put it lightly when back in January, Lana was spotted at the controversial Hillsong church, or so we thought. For anyone who doesn't know why, I'll explain briefly - Hillsong is a megachurch/cult attended by celebrities such as Bieber, Selena Gomez, the Kardashians, and Nick Jonas. It has supported gay conversion therapy in the past and although it's stopped it still does not "affirm a gay lifestyle", won't have LGBT people in positions of leadership, it's money-hungry, misogynistic, and its founder is a Trump supporter who covered up his father's child sexual abuse crimes. Being a megachurch it has many locations, Los Angeles being one. The photos of Lana attending this church came from x17online.com, as seen in this article: https://www.x17online.com/2019/01/hailey_baldwin_justin_bieber_church_hillsong_kourtney_kardashian_photos_video_012419 Peep how possessed Lana looks sksksks maybe she was going for an exorcism, anyway back to the point. Notice how the article begins with "Another Wednesday night at church", it's important later on. After this incident, Lana was seen again at an unnamed church in Beverly Hills. It was assumed that the unnamed church was Hillsong again at first - this has been debunked, as there is only one Hillsong in Los Angeles and it's in Downtown LA. I'm not local to the area but my Texan ass can use google and Beverly Hills and Downtown Los Angeles are not the same place funny enough, in fact they're 13 miles apart, so she wasn't at Hillsong. Of course, not being at Hillsong for a second time doesn't disprove the original article which said she was there in January, and you're probably thinking as the great Whitney Houston once said, "I wanna see the receipts". Well, here they are. x17online, the provider of the first photos, again said she was at Hillsong on the night of Wednesday May the 22nd: https://www.x17online.com/2019/05/justin_bieber_hailey_baldwin_lana_del_rey_hillsong_church_photos_video_052319 I won't link to the article because fuck the Daily Mail, but the DM also published the same photographs but stated that they were taken in Beverly Hills, which we've already established is not home to Hillsong, suggesting she was somewhere else - meaning there is a good chance that x17online was wrong about where she was with the first article they published. Furthermore, as you may have noticed all photographs of Lana at church have been taken on a Wednesday. Hillsong Los Angeles is located at Belasco Theater, and only ever takes place on a Sunday, as seen here http://thebelasco.com/events/ Lana has 1, never been seen leaving church on a Sunday and 2, has only been seen at church in Beverly Hills, not downtown LA. Therefore, she has indisputably never been photographed at Hillsong, and never went at all as if she was there she would've been photographed as paparazzi are always there for Bieber. Finally, you may be wondering where exactly Miss Thing had been going while we thought she was burning the gays. The answer has been right in front of us all this time! Peep this guy behind her: https://www.x17online.com/gallery/galleries/2019/05/x17_justin_bieber_church_exc_052219/full/x17_lana_del_rey_bieber_exc_052219_03.jpg His sweater says "churchome". This is from when she was spotted at "Hillsong" on May 22nd. This photo is of Hailey Baldwin with who I think is the same guy wearing the same item of clothing from the first time we saw Lana at church in January: https://www.x17online.com/gallery/galleries/2019/01/X17_Hailey_Baldwin_012319/full/X17_Hailey_Baldwin_012319_02.jpg Now, he could just be going to Hillsong with the sweater from a different church repeatedly, but as the photos have been taken on Wednesdays in Beverly Hills it's very unlikely. Lana has also been reported to be at Churchome before, so that is probably where she was when we thought she was at Hillsong - Churchome is only open on a Wednesday, takes place in Beverly Hills, and is attended by Justin Bieber, which could have been why x17online got confused about her location. In all honesty, Churchome does still look like a weird cult like Hillsong, and both are attended by Justin Bieber which is never a good sign. However, while Hillsong is misogynstic, Churchome has a male and female lead pastor. It hasn't said anything about the LGBT community which is disappointing, but the lead pastor did refuse to argue against same-sex marriage and unlike Hillsong hasn't got a history with conversion therapy or general homophobia. It has no sexual abuse scandals and no connections to Trump. There's also only 4 locations compared to Hillsong's 80. I still don't trust it but it's objectively a hell of a lot less problematic than Hillsong (and the Catholic church which she was raised in) and she hasn't gone for like 2 months now anyway so hopefully she's escaped the cult tl;dr - Multiple pieces of evidence debunking Lana going to Hillsong, she only ever went to Churchome which is like it but much less problematic, seems to have stopped going there too, I have decided to restan, Lana should sue x17online for defamation. And yes I have no life but you read this so neither do you.

I usually mostly like originals but some remixes I like more than the original are: Selena Gomez - Good For You ft. ASAP Rocky [Edit: My bad, this is the original version, I've been mistaken lol sorry] Nick Jonas - Jealous ft. Tinashe This isn't official, but Zara Larsson - Uncover (Richello Remix). I've heard this one before the original and I love this more; the original seems so slow and dragging now lol. These are just some off the top of my head but what remixes/duets do you like better?
2018.10.07 14:19 That1weirdpersonIs it just me getting older or are child stars on Disney Channel &/or Nick not "making it" with lasting careers like they used to (they kinda just fade away into irrelevance as soon as their show ends)? If so, how come?
I mean, the whole point of getting onto that kind of thing is to get your name out there, build a fanbase, then star in other things when you're older or make music. Maybe because it's because I've grown out of the target audience of 13 and under, and the only shows I watch are "Raven's Home" and "Andi Mack" with my mom on Disney, but I don't know the names of the other actors and actresses on the other shows. I mean, Disney was so strong, like a decade ago (and before, but I was watching Playhouse Disney at the time), into the early 2010s. The strength that came in the trios. The Jonas Brothers (I mean, they're kind of fading away now, years after Nick Jonas's solo career and DNCE, don't know whatever happened to the other one, Kevin, was it?). Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato (they're still going very strong, Demi the strongest of all with her recent news). Hilary Duff happened last decade (she tried coming back with music the first half of this decade, but she's appeared on lists of celebrities who haven't realized they're not famous anymore). And after that, we don't really hear the others' names anymore. Many went onto acting, which, even if that's what they wanted (after all, the show is acting), it might have been a "mistake" (if they wanted to stay really relevant, not saying it's a mistake), because adult shows have a smaller niche audience, while pop music gets played everywhere on the radio. And even the ones who get picked back up again (Raven and Chelsea from That's so Raven), they don't do anything that big outside of the show to be discussed elsewhere. And Ariana Grande is the only really big name from Nick (the rest of the casts of her shows faded into the land of forgotten), unless you count the black guy from the burger show who is now on SNL (I was a Disney kid, don't really know him, sorry). I mean, now, you don't hear that much about Olivia Holt from Kickin' It and I Didn't Do It (she did some music recently, but it's not that big, I don't think), and she's in a show now. Or Bridgit Mendler, or the rest of the Good Luck Charlie cast. Or the Lab Rats cast. Or the Ant Farm cast (really though, China was the biggest star). And I don't even really know about today's shows (I catch glimpses at the dentist, like of Stuck in the Middle and Bizaardvark, can't name the characters, but it's advertised in commercials). Is Disney not as strong any more? And Nick? These were the big channels for acting kids who wanted to get their big breaks, did they just retire off what they made, get regular people jobs and outgrew the "industry," or do/did they have/had really bad promotion teams? Thanks to anyone who answers, it's such a shame that only a few can "strike it rich/big," while most are left in the dust. Note: Let's not speak of Jake Paul, his fame has decreased since 2017 anyway. Also, some other honorable mentions are Zac Efron and Zendaya. Dunno about Bella Thorne, she's going through a "Miley Cyrus" crazy phase, but worse. Tl;dr: Why do only a few make it big from their child acting careers if the whole point is to get big?

The Weeknd - Can’t Feel My Face
The instrumental this year was all over the place this year, in a good way. The songs he used are Can’t Feel My Face, Truffle Butter, Post to Be, Where Are U Now, Fight Song, Watch Me, I Don’t Fuck With You, Lean On, You Know You Like It, Sorry, Cheerleader, and Love Me Like You Do. It’s a really good instrumental, it’s basically split up into two parts, the first part based around CFMF/PTB/WRUN/TB and the second part based around FS/IDFWY/LMLYD. Normally I’d include an instrumental, but the only ones I could find were very rough. The lyrics here don’t really follow any kind of theme, and don’t really connect. It’s more in tune with a Pop Danthology mashup or his 2007 mashup than his other ones. And it makes sense when you see that he used 50 songs this year. But there are some lyrics here I like, such as “When you touch me/That’s how it post to be, when you feel me/that’s how it post to be, that’s the real me” and the “rap verse” from a bunch of different rappers and Nick Jonas (see: 1:12-1:30) from the first “half”. From the second half there’s the ex-acts being seductive part (see: 2:43-2:53), the entirety of 3:46-4:31, which just sounds beautiful. This mashup as a whole is very interesting, to say the least. The idea to do a 50-song mashup for Earworm must have been challenging, and I have to give him some props. He did really well with what he worked with, it seemed like he had a bit more freedom than usual. I like the idea of basically a two-part mashup in one, just to make everything feel connected. I wish the lyrics were more cohesive, but I have no idea how he would’ve done it with all those songs. But even still, this is really good. And fun fact, this is the first mashup since 2007 that doesn’t feature anything from Katy Perry. Ranking:
2017.10.29 00:14 desertrosemoOfficial Spotify playlists for Rey & Kylo Ren
A few months ago, Spotify released an official Star Wars: The Force Awakens playlist series that give characters in the movie their own soundtracks. I believe it was Disney that had released or approved the official playlist. Many are referencing Keylo Ren's and Rey's dark/light dynamic. But some of the songs appear to be Reylo-centric. Could this be a hint of things to come? Here’s part of Kylo Ren’s playlist with lyrics: • > DEAD INSIDE - MUSE* ( your lips feel warm to the touch, you can bring me back to life // feel me now, hold me please, i need you to see who i am // open up to me, stop hiding from me // it’s hurting babe, only you can stop the pain // now i’ve become just like you, my lips feel warm to the touch, my words seem so alive ) • ALL THIS COULD BE YOURS - COLD WAR KIDS ( i have been waiting for you to find that all of this could be yours tonight ) • BREED - NIRVANA* ( i don’t mean to stare, we don’t have to breed // we could plant a house, we could build a tree // i don’t even care, we could have all three // she said, she said, she said ) • > INNERVISION - SYSTEM OF A DOWN ( i have to find you, i have to meet you // i need to find you, i need to seek my innervision // it’s never too late to reinvent the bicycle // a smile brings forth energy or life, giving your force, vision ) • > SATELLITE - RISE AGAINST ( we are the orphans of the American dream, so shine your light on me // she told me that she never could face the world again, so i offered up a plan, we’ll sneak out while they sleep, and sail off in the night ) • > BORED TO DEATH - BLINK-182 ( there’s a stranger staring at the ceiling, rescuing a tiger from a tree, the pictures in her head are always dreaming, each of them means everything to me // i think i met her at the minute that the rhythm was set down, i said i’m sorry i’m a bit of a letdown ) • WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE - POWERMAN 5000 ( are you ready to go? cause i’m ready to go, what you gonna do, baby? are you goin’ with me? cause i’m goin’ with you // now who’s the light and who is the devil? you can’t decide, so i’ll be your guide ) Here’s part of Rey’s playlist with lyrics: • COME AND GET IT - SELENA GOMEZ ( can’t stop because i love it, hate the way i love you ) • LEVELS - NICK JONAS ( so much to discover, please don’t stop me now // all this heat keep rising, make you stop, drop, and roll // i’m bottling up the lightning, supernatural ) • CAN’T FEEL MY FACE - THE WEEKND* ( and i know she’ll be the death of me, at least we’ll both be numb // and she’ll always get the best of me, the worst is yet to come // all the misery was necessary when we’re deep in love ) • OMEN - DISCLOSURE ( i’m feeling something, something different // needed you to show me, without you I am lonely // my mind would rule my heart // i didn’t pay attention to the light in the dark, it left me torn apart ) • WE FOUND LOVE - RIHANNA ( it’s the way I’m feeling i just can’t deny // shine a light through an open door // turn away ‘cause i need you more // we found love in a hopeless place ) • BLUE JEANS - LANA DEL REY ( you fit me better than my favorite sweater, and i know that love is mean, and love hurts ) • > BATTLEFIELD - JORDIN SPARKS ( i never meant to start a war, you know, i never wanna hurt you // don’t even know we’re fighting for, why does love always feel like a battlefield // baby, we don’t have to fight ) • A SKY FULL OF STARS - COLDPLAY ( i don’t care, go on and tear me apart // 'cause in a sky, ‘cause in a sky full of stars i think i saw you // ‘cause you’re a sky, 'cause you’re a sky full of stars, i wanna die in your arms )
Whisper Queen Selena Marie Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, TX on Wednesday, July 22nd, 1992 - which squeaks her into the Cancer astrological sign. Her mother was 16 at the time and named her after the Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Let's take a look at her career thus far: Acting
2002 - Joined the Barney and Friends cast with Demi Lovato
During the series, she guest starred in: Spy Kids 3-D: Game over, Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody
2007 - She landed a recurring role on Hannah Montana
2007 - Landed major role on Wizards of Waverly Place for 5 years
She worked on multiple films during this time such as: Another Cinderella Story, Horton Hears a Who, and (one of my favorites) Princess Protection Program
2012 - Wizards ended, Selena continued to star in movies such as Spring Breakers, The Fundamentals of Caring, and the Hotel Transylvania series.
In 2008, Selena joined up with some musicians and to start Selena Gomez & the Scene - the title was a jab at people who called her a "wannabe scene."
In early 2012, Selena announced that she wanted to focus on acting and the band would be on hiatus. This didn't last long for her personally.
In 2013, She released a solo album Stars Dance. This would be her only full solo album under Hollywood Records. In this EDM/electo-pop collection, she worked with Julia Michaels for the fist time on tracks Slow Down and Undercover.
To complete her 5 album agreement with Hollywood Records, she released a compilation album, For You in 2014. It included re-releases of some S&tS songs, and a premiere of songs like The Heart Wants What It Wants.
Selena signed a contract with Interscope Records in December of 2014.
Her first album with them, Revival, came nearly a year later.
During the release and tour for Revival, Selena dealt with a lot of losses. Right after the album dropped, Jake Bailey, a make up artist known for working with her, commit suicide. In June 2016, Christina Grimmie, a very close friend, was murdered. Selena struggled with depression, and cancelled the rest of her tour to take some time off and go to a rehabilitation center for her mental health.
So far this year, we've seen a few different singles: It Ain't Me - a break up anthem, collaboration with dj/producer Kygo, Bad Liar - a podcast single reportedly recorded a year ago (which just sold 1 million copies world wide!), and slut drop anthem Fetish - the most recent single and the rumored official first single off of her next album. Her album is rumored to be released November 3rd, 2017.
Charts, Awards, and Philanthropy
Selena has had 6 solo top 10 Billboard 100 hits: Same Old Love and Good For You (Peaked at #5), The Heart Wants What It Wants and Come And Get It (Peaked at #6), Hands To Myself (Peaked at #7), and It Ain't Me (Peaked at #10). Her duet with Charlie Puth, We Don't Talk Anymore, peaked at #9 on the BB100!
Two of her albums hit #1 on the Billboard 200: Stars Dance (25 weeks on chart) and Revival (69 weeks on chart).
All of her singles (except Kill Em With Kindness and Falling Down) has reached Platinum certification in the US or Multi-Platinum. Revival was her first album to hit Platinum!
Selena has 83 wins and 122 nominations! She's won awards from the American Music Awards, ASCAP Pop Music Awards, Glamour Woman of the Year, iHeart Radio Awards, and even holds TEN Guinness World Records.
She has participated in benefits like the UR Votes Count Campaign in 2008, and the St. Jude's Children's Hospital "Runway For Life."
She was spokesman for UNICEF's Treak-or-Treat campaign in 2008 which in turn allowed her to become the youngest UNICEF ambassador ever. Selena has also appeared in State Farm commercials that appeared on the Disney Channel to promote safe driving.
Not counting the company's own account, Selena currently has the highest amount of followers on Instagram - 123 million followers! She became the top followed in March 2016 when she had only 83 million.
She has dated Samuel Krost, Zedd, Taylor Lautner, Nick Jonas, and of course legendary white bad boy Justin Bieber. There are rumors of her dating Charlie Puth, Niall Horan, Orlando Bloom, and David Henrie. And she is currently dating our Starboy, The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye)!!!!
Her first kiss was while on the set of The Suite Life, and it was with Dylan Sprouse.
She had a YouTube channel with Demi.
She wants to invent "Pickle Gum."
She can play the harmonica!
Now, it might be obvious that I'm a stan. I am. Let me tell you why. In the Fall of 2015, I had just moved across the country. I was all by myself at a new school. I was just coming out of a situation where I had been bullied by another girl in my department and I had a hard time trusting people, so making friends was hard. A month into my program, Revival came out. Now, I had been a fan for years. I watched Wizards and I had seen a bunch of her movies. But when Revival came out..man. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I started listening to it where ever I was: in the car, studying by myself, at home. I can't describe how it happened, but somehow eventually it brought me out of the depression I had fallen into. It saved me. I've been a stan ever since. I wasn't able to see her on tour but I will try next time. Some of my favorite pictures of her are this one, this one, this one, this one, and this one! I also love these two songs that aren't on albums: Feel Me (Unreleased) and this version of Revival. I loved her 73 Questions with Vogue and the two timesshe rapped! I'd love to know other peoples' stories about Selena! When did you become a fan/stan? How many albums do you own? Any favorite memories or pictures of her? Use this thread to celebrate her!
2017.06.19 20:40 Ghost-Quartet[DISCUSSION] Priscilla Renea: Who Is She?
I’m gonna take a minute to pimp out one of my favorite artists in the music industry today, Priscilla Renea Hamilton (mostly credited as just Priscilla Renea). I searched her name and only one post came up (and it wasn't even about her it was about Bridgit Mendler) and she’s very much in the interest of this sub. She's a prominent songwriter and I guarantee you that she’s written something in your music library. Given recent developments with her I figured now would be a good time to throw the spotlight on who she is and what she’s done for the music industry so far. The story of how she started her career is fairly familiar: she was an aspiring singer who developed a fan following by posting covers on her YouTube channel and MySpace way back in 2006. These channel are gone now, but a few scattered clips such as this one, a cover of “Love Song” by Sara Barellis, give you a taste of what she did back then. A video of her singing the dictionary to the tune of “Glamorous” by Fergie was featured on the front page of YouTube, and that same week she did MTV’s “Say What Karaoke,” a reality show that's exactly what it sounds like. Shortly thereafter, at 19 years old she was contacted by producers to move to Atlanta to essentially be vetted by the music industry. She was signed by Capitol Records and began preparing to release her debut album in 2009. First she released an EP entitled Hello My Apple, which was a “greatest” hits collection of songs from her YouTube channel, and it’s a charming little acoustic EP. This was followed by her first full length album. The lead single “Dollhouse” did decently, a breakup jam which critics compared to a Katy Perry song (back when that was a compliment), and while it didn’t crack the Hot 100 it charted well enough and garnered her a bit of attention. And then came the album. To be fair, Jukebox was actually pretty well reviewed (Billboard, the only major publication that bothered to review it, gave it 4 stars and all the smaller reviewers seemed to love it) but the album was an abysmal flop. It only sold 1,200 copies in its first week and to this day it’s barely cracked 5,000 units worldwide. The album’s second single, the theatrical “Lovesick,” failed to chart completely and so they didn’t even bother releasing the music video for it. The project was abandoned after this. This is a pity because the album is a favorite of mine, it’s quite good. It’s primarily a singesongwriter pop album, but her songs are flavored with a variety of other genres, there are touches of soul, jazz, electropop, r&b, and more. Most of the songs on the album deal with love and relationships, but she manages to keep her songs sounding fresh for 11 tracks with no filler. She has a real knack for lyrics, each of her songs is well crafted and tells a story. Just to list a few: “Rockabye Baby” is a rap about teen pregnancy through the lens of children’s nursery rhymes, “Mr. Workabee” is a cutesy track that uses a bee metaphor to vent about infidelity (complete with a cartoony intro track), “Baby Please” is a heartbreakingly honest depiction of a post-breakup mindset, and “Stonegarden” tackles the tricky topic of having a loved one die. Possibly the best track on the album is “Fixing My Hair,” a wonderfully vulnerable piano ballad about love and self-image. She wrote or co-wrote every song on the album, gives a sparkling vocal performance, not to mention the production is quite good too… If she only ever released one album, she made sure it was a good one. I definitely think it’s worth your time to check out. Regardless of its quality, the album’s lack of success effectively killed her viability as a front woman. But she wasn’t going to go back to working at CVS just because she wasn’t going to be a pop star. In the same year that she released Jukebox she co-wrote a song for Cheryl Cole’s debut album, which lead to her cowriting four more songs for Cheryl’s followup album the next year, including the lead single which went #1 in the UK. This earned her some buzz, and allowed her to segue into a very prolific career as a songwriter. She’s written for a lot of people, just to name a few: Madonna, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Little Mix, Nick Jonas, Bridgit Mendler, Mika, Mary K. Blige, Fantasia, Girls’ Generation, and more. Some of the biggest hits she’s had her hand in writing:
“Popular Song” was written by her and Mika, and then covered by Ariana Grande on Yours Truly.
“Who Says” for Selena Gomez & The Scene, an immortal classic.
“Timber” for Pitbull and Ke$ha, which spent 3 weeks at #1, the original idea for the song is credited to her.
She sings the pre-chorus on the upcoming Iggy Azalea song “Boom Boom”
Other than occasional stints as a featured vocalist, since 2009 she’s been mostly absent as a recording artist. However, it seems she may be preparing to make a comeback. She’s hinted many times that she’s been working on a project for her self, and she released a single earlier this year, “Kiss Me,” a pretty little trop-pop song. It’s not her best work, but it’s nice enough and hopefully it just means that there’s more to come. She recently reopened her YouTube channel. Her original YouTube channel was what initially propelled her to popularity, but it was deleted somewhere along the way and most of its contents were lost. The new page signals a return to her roots as a singer rather than just a songwriter, and she’s already posted three original songs to the channel in the past two weeks. If you’re interested in her and want to keep up with what she’s doing, subscribe to this. Anyways, she’s a fabulous artist who deserves a lot more attention, I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time and I just wanted to make this post to encourage y’all to check her out. Thank you!

2017.04.20 12:44 GnuMagJust found out that Disney has made official Spotify playlists for the different Zootopia characters.
Link: https://open.spotify.com/useofficial_zootopia_ Judy's list includes hits such as Try Everything, Shut Up and Dance, Don't Stop Believing, Eye of the Tiger, Fight Song, All Star, Who let the Dogs Out, and this. Nick's list gives us an interesting and pretty deep look into his personality. Born To Be Wild(e), Danger Zone, and Stayin' Alive. But also Devil Side, King of the World, 6 Underground, and The Wolf. Also quite a lot of WildeHopps baiting, including She's a Lady, Two Princes, and The Lovecats. And then there's The Fox (AKA What Does The Fox Say?) ... Yax' list is pure dad-rock: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, David Bowie, and Santana, among others. Clawhauser's list doesn't actually surprise me in the slightest: Gazelle/Shakira, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and different boybands. Gazelle: A fair amount of what I can only describe as "Girl Power" songs, and the rest is generally latino-inspired, shake-your-hips music: Shakira (obviously), Rihanna, Beyoncé ... and My Humps. Finnick: Mainly rap and hip-hop. Not my type of music, so I have little to say here. Bellwether's list is surprisingly upbeat: I'll be There For You, Wake Me up Before You Go-Go; and Signed, Sealed, Delivered; for example. But also the more expected Ready or Not, and Goody Two-Shoes. Mr. Big: If Yax is dad-music, then Mr. Big is granddad-music. Mostly music from the '50s. Also mainly songs featured in gangster movies, because of course. EDIT: Finally done finding the songs on Youtube. Was it worth the time? Probably not, but hey, whatever; as long as some you appreciate it, I'm happy. If you notice something's off, let me know, and I'll fix it.
Lately, I've developed an interest in watching songs move up and down on the iTunes sales chart. I thought I might post its most recent status here, so as to use it to predict Hot 100 rankings. Maybe I could make this a series if people like it. I don't know. Currently, the top 20 songs on iTunes are:
"Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran
"I Don't Wanna Live Forever" by Zayn and Taylor Swift
"That's What I Like" by Bruno Mars
"Chained to the Rhythm" by Katy Perry
"It Ain't Me" by Kygo and Selena Gomez
"Million Reasons" by Lady Gaga
"Body Like a Back Road" by Sam Hunt
"Cold" by Maroon 5 featuring Future
"I Feel It Coming" by The Weeknd
"Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur
"24K Magic" by Bruno Mars
"Paris" by The Chainsmokers
"Down" by Marian Hill
"The Fighter" by Keith Urban featuring Carrie Underwood
"Rockabye" by Clean Bandit featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie
"Shining" by DJ Khaled featuring Beyonce and Jay-Z
"Bad and Boujee" by Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert
"Bom Bidi Bom" by Nick Jonas and Nicki Minaj
"Mercy" by Shawn Mendes
"Bad Things" by Machine Gun Kelly and Camila Cabello

2016.11.20 18:48 leafsnash61[DISCUSSION] Billboard Year-End Hot 100 of 2016 predictions
Hey everyone! As we all know, the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 2016 will be out sometime in the near future (I'm not sure of an exact date just yet. If they've announced one, please share!) but the Billboard year itself is over. In this post I am going to give you my predictions for all 100 songs. "But it's only November" I hear you say. Indeed, but Billboard tracks their year from November to November and this past week on the Hot 100 was the final week. "That's dumb," you snap back. Oh I agree with you there. Things to keep in mind:
The tracking year goes from November to November which is why you'll see a bunch of "2015" songs (The Hills, Can't Feel My Face, etc.) littered throughout my predictions.
Just because a song felt bigger (Closer, for example) doesn't mean its chart run was exactly the best or the song itself came out later in the year and hasn't reached 20 weeks yet.
Many of the songs here will definitely contend for the 2017 Year End list.
Bold songs indicate songs that are currently on the charts as of Nov. 19, 2016.
I normally give songs ranges (e.g. 10-20) and then I adjust accordingly with where their final placement would be. It's tricky! I might be wrong on many of them but they should end up in their respective "range", if you will.
Anyway, let's get right into it. Do remember, these are just predictions and NOT the actual list. Basically Radcliffe got it right. This though, is pretty difficult with women who no matter what will try to look great in their outfits (I guess not all women, ehem.. Kristen Stewart). Leo Di Caprio is also good at making his pictures worthless (and worth a lot at the same time), but he takes it a step further. I heard that even when he goes out to restaurants he asks for the table that faces a wall, doesn't look up to the waiter and never takes off his hat or sunglasses.
The worst one that haunted me for days... was Marcia Cross' twin daughters birthday with her husband that had cancer.
It was super creepy, worked with a partner, never left the car where I was hidden and took pictures of them enjoying a day in the park. When they went for coffee later, they saw us and they were super chill and nice people. Seriously, I couldn't believe they were so nice. They knew we were always there in the car taking pictures and thank us for giving them their space. Still super creepy. I hated that job.
I'm sure I did more similar things... you know.. being a creep is part of the job. But that's the one I just remembered right now.
Never really did anything "invasive" out of the ordinary that I can think off. Bruce Willis did call the cops on me once because he said I was trying to get into his property. This was not true, I simply was peeing in a bush in Mulholland ave...
Of course I thought of this before. I believe that privacy is a lost issue now a days with the internet and the NSA. I am not embarrassed of who I am and I believe I would smile and talk to them openly.
I would hate it if I was in my honeymoon or something of that sort and some asshole was shooting me with a 500+ lens. But there's an easy way to avoid this from happening and many celebrities have figured it out (just take pics yourself and throw them online for free, kills the money shot)
I would follow the example of people that admired and were great with the paps. They are just people working for some shitty media that wants some shitty news.
NYC has a lot of paps and they don't ignore them. LA works pretty much the same. A lot of people ignore them, but a lot of people go to the city just to see a celebrity so of course they go wild when they see one.
It was pretty demeaning, especially being an artist myself. But I did get to see awesome people and even shook hands with Paul McCartney.
He can still be cool. I saw him a couple more times and he was dickish, but no spitting on my face.
Maybe he was having a bad day, maybe he is just a general asshole or has no idea what to be a pap is like, but the dude is a pretty good actor though I hated him on Love in the Time of Cholera. I have a few friends that are a fan of his and got sad with my experience with him. But fuck it, just hope the guy thinks about the shit that he did. I mean, that's like one of the worst thing you can ever do (to spit on someone's face). I think I rather be punched.
There are. But now there's too many idiot paps breaking the unwritten laws. So the limits have been disappearing and people will do whatever to take a picture. TMZ has pretty basic rules for their videographers about respect and not shoot if they the talent doesn't want to be shot. If you see a video of asshole paps filming and just provoking celebs, they weren't TMZ (or they were and got fired).
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's bodyguard was super chill. He always told me how things were going to go down, didn't block my picture, just did his job.
Fergie's bodyguard is like her best friend. He was also always awesome.
Jessica Simpson's bodyguard told me about all the people he had worked with before. He was also a former cop and marine. I asked him what would he do if I was an actual threat. In less than a second my arms were locked painfully behind my back and couldn't move. Super badass.
Yep. She was indeed crazy. I tried hitting on her with the fantasy that I would be in someday and I was just 21...
What can I say that hasn't been said before? The camera I used when I switched agencies was the very same one that took the picture of her shaving her head and her vagina. My boss was like "this camera and I have been through a lot, break it and you are fired." (He was half kidding and I loved that D3)
My first jobs as a pap was Britney. She did randomly talk in British accents and was widely unpredictable. It was always a mess with shit tons of people trying to get pictures. One time she drove around in circles in a parking lot as 20 pap cars followed her. She would park, pretend to get out of the car, all the paps would jump out, but then she would just get in again and drive around the parking lot.
This pap told me a story that one day they were outside her house waiting for her. When she decided to come out and invite all the paps inside for a BBQ and a party but with no cameras. They obliged and went inside her house where she went to a different room. He said she then went to a different room and when she came back asked wtf they were doing there and called security to kick them out. He also said that he went inside a room that had random sex toys and shit smeared on the walls. THIS IS NOT MY STORY. Just a story I heard when house sitting some place else.
After her breakdown I saw her at LAX a couple of times. She always seem faded, almost robotic as her handlers took her through security and put her on her plane.
Edit: I actually already wrote about Britney on my blog and tell the stories there of when I saw her.
This was at LAX. He was walking with Penelope and I was giving them distance while saying really nice things in Spanish (welcome to LA, I'm a huge fan, I love your work). He was about to get in his car when he turned around and I thought he was going to extend his hand to shake and say thank you (like many other celebs have). Instead he said "Eres basura" and spat in my eye. I saw Penelope freaking out, I saw his helper freaking out... I freaked out. I yelled back that I was just a guy trying to pay his fucking college debt working a shitty job, but no fucks were given. He got inside the car and left. I called my boss, he told me I had a lawsuit in my hands, specially because there was witnesses. I thought about it and talked to the police. They told me I could press charges under attack with a biological weapon (yep..) and it was going to be a whole fucking mess. I decided to drop it and leave it to karma.
Yes. Tons of people. When I started, Twilight was nothing. My neighbor was Nikki Reed and she was awesome. We figured our birthdays were one day apart and we had a lot of similar interests (she going to college for art history which I also partake).
Also, Selena Gomez was just the little girl from Wizards of Waverly place. Miley Cyrus was just Miley. I saw both of them become massive which was super weird. They were both super nice when barely famous, but it changed fast.
There's more like that...
It was beneficial in the way that if they remember who I was, they were super nice to me. Like Vanessa Hudgens. She always smiled at my camera and other paps were always like WTF?! how do you do that?! It sounds super dumb, but I miss her sometimes...
Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Jolie are the top 3 demands and will always be a good sell.
Uhh... its not the paparazzi that chooses who to pursue, is the obsessed audience that wants to know more about a certain person. Some get unfairly harassed when the media only cares about them. I remember Rihanna after the Chris Brown days, everyone was in that case (I shied away from on demand stories). She definitely was pursued like crazy for a while.
I believe that America and every country should adapt the no baby pictures like in Europe, where they blur the pictures of anyone under a certain age.
It truly is fucked up that Suri Cruise is as famous as she is. BABIES BABIES BABIES. The magazines and my bosses would yell at me for that. I don't understand celebrity obsession, much less celebrity baby obsession.
Celebrities that have a social media presence are for the most part better off. But have to be always careful about what they post online, anything can be taken out of context. For myself, I know there's people that are going to upvote me and people that are going to downvote me. I'm happy for those who appreciate me and don't care about the haters that just hate (unless they have something constructive to say). I think many celebs are grasping this notion. There's probably as many Justin Bieber fans as Bieber haters and he should understand that not everyone is going to like him. This is what everyone should acknowledge and everyone would be fine (or that is my view).
YES! As a Mexican and a huge fan of all their work I had to talked to them. I approached them to get that picture of me with them at LAX.
Gael was a bit of a dick and Diego was the nicest fucking guy ever. Gael was confronting me because I took more than one picture, he told me that one was enough. I told him that in the business I keep shooting until I get the right frame. Diego calmed Gael and asked me to direct them to the taxis. I helped them navigate LAX while taking pictures and Gael was still being dickish (while Diego super chill)
Iñarritu was there with them as well, but I didn't bug him because he was with his family.
Also saw Diego once in a bathroom in a bar in LA. I was already drunk and walking out when he was walking in. I randomly yelled "DIEGO!" and he looked at me with a "do I know you" type face. I just told him I was a fan, shook his hand and left the awkward situation.
I think I have a decent enough gaydar and I would say that is more than you imagine. Tons of Hollywood waiters (wanna be models/actors) like to claim that they have slept with celebrities so I have heard that a lot are.
One of my favorites was Lindsay Lohan in Hawaii. It was like my first travel job and major sale and the first time using a 500mm lens. But there's a lot of other pictures I treasure (like the aforementioned Paul McCartney).
The pay always depended. I know now a days is way worse and paps fight more for lame pictures.
It could be anywhere between 5 cents and $5,000 or even more.
I averaged around 5k a month. I had horrible months where I made less than 1k. My best month was 12k.
Pay was tricky. The picture gets sold, the magazines don't pay you until months later. Blogs pay a misery. The agency you sold the pictures fuck with the numbers and pay you less. So the numbers were always all over the place. Sales reports included title of picture sold, what it sold for and my commission. Sometimes the report was 5 pages long of tiny tiny amounts that added up to 2,000.
So... it always depends. There is money in the job, its just not easy money (and I hear that now a days is way worse).
Technology changed the game. Now a celebrity can be somewhere and an idiot with an iPhone will take their picture an upload it to Twitter. That's a free picture for magazines to grab while that paps are trying their hardest to get a good picture.
Well.. this is going to be a very bias answer since she is also my celebrity crush.
SHE'S AWESOME AND I'M IN LOVE WITH HER.
Yes, I have folders and folders with tons of pictures of Audrina. I used to hang out by her house and follow her all the time... She was always super nice, her sister and brother were chill too. Her dad tried to sell me their monster truck (as if I made that much money as a pap). Basically, picture that high school crush that you had nothing in common with but still believe you were going to marry her (or at least that's how it was for me).
I'm not sure. I know Ashley Greene is awesome and loves to party. Joe dated her and other girls that would love to party. Last time I was in Hollywood I bumped into Joe. I'm sure he parties. Not much to say about them, they were nice kids.
Besides all the celebrity whores (Kardashians, the Hills, Jersey Shore, Kate and Jon Gosling, etc.) yes.
Al Pacino has to be one of the nicest ones that you would never expect. Hugh Jackman is super nice that every time I saw him I just wanted to brohug the dude. Like I said before, those who you expect them to be super mean turn out to be nice. Some that you expect to be super chill are complete dicks.
Seriously, in person she doesn't seem interesting or hot. I would take pictures of her and be like "bleh," then look at my camera and she would look perfect. Oddly photogenic in like the worst lightning and worst moments.
But yeah. I have no idea why they are famous besides Kim having an ass that I could sleep on as if it was a waterbed (and yes, it is that huge in person).
I consider it one of the toughest photographies next to National Geographic stuff. Animals are tough creatures to get perfect pictures of, so are celebrities. Think about it, we get pictures of people that don't want their picture taken, similar to polar bears that are looking for a meal and much rather eat the photographer.
Sport photography is an a controlled ambient. You know the light, you know the sport, you know what is going to happen, you just better be a good shooter. Model photography is very controlled. Pretty much every ambient is nice and controlled except photojournalism (or paparazzi, which is its lowest form) and nature type awesomeness (which someday I hope to do).
Its that obvious. When you are in LA and the business, you can't escape it. I would see celebrities when I DIDNT WANT TOO.
Being at LAX to just be at LAX can get you some luck, but its dumb and pointless. Limo drivers and their agencies are more than willing to sell some information. Same with airline people.
Many paps have the city "wired". Valet parking people, managers of restaurants, or virtually any one that wants to make a quick buck can make a call and sell out a celebrity for $50 or so. I had tons of people that also called me for free.
When the twilight craze was going full speed I befriended some Twilight crazy fans that send me information constantly. These girls knew everything and messaged me for free the information.
